Geology Rocks & Directions Matter Patch Combo for Teen Girl Scouts

Who: Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors

Find your way through the exciting world of geology with this fun combo at Lincoln Caverns!  Girls will experience the geological sciences through hands-on activities identifying rocks, finding fossils, completing a conservation activity, and soil testing to complete the Geology Rocks Patch. A rock collection for each girl is included. Mapping, Geocaching, and Letterboxing are all topics for the technology based treasure hunting patch "Directions Matter".  Girls will receive materials for a letterboxing craft and participate in a geocache hunt designed especially for Girl Scouts.  Girls will receive materials for a letterboxing craft and participate in a geocache hunt designed especially for Girl Scouts.  Lodging is slumber-party style and lunch-time meals are included.

Safe Driving Poster and Video Contest

 

Elementary and middle school students (K-8) are invited to submit a poster with an original safe driving superhero they've created. Cash prizes of $250 go to the top 15 national winners.

 
High school students (grade 9-12) are invited to submit an original safe driving video.  The three top winners will each receive $500.

Olney Ballet Theatre- The Nutcracker Ballet

  

WhoGirl Scouts of All Ages

This is a full length (2 hours including intermission) ballet in two acts featuring nearly 100 student dancers complimented by fine professionals from Ballet West, American Ballet Theatre and Carolina Ballet Theatre. This traditional Nutcracker was choreographed by Mary Day who founded The Washington Ballet.  It is directed By Patricia Berrend who danced with the Hamburg Ballet and The Washington Ballet and became Associate Artistic Director during her 27 years at The Washington Ballet.

  

Scouts must wear their vest or sash to show they are a Girl Scout to receive this discount.

Explore the Effects of Energy with the US Energy Information Administration

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) will sponsor a workshop on Energy for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts on Saturday, October  27,  at the U.S. Department of Energy headquarters. The three-hour class will begin at 9:30 a.m. The class is free, but you must register in advance to attend. Girl Scouts will earn a patch for attending!

Dine-Around Series  

  

Are you working toward your Gold Award? Have you already earned your Gold Award? If so, we'd love to have you join us for one of our Dine-Arounds this season.

  

What's a Dine-Around? Dine-Arounds are informal dinners, brunches, teas or other events that are hosted by Women's Advisory Board members at their homes or businesses.  They are a unique chance to gain insight from successful women and will prove to be an amazing networking session. Please note there is no cost to attend a Dine-Around.

If you are interested in sharpening your presentation skills (sharing information to groups) or facilitation skills (managing the opinions and interests in a group) then it's your lucky day!  Join these classes for a refresher in presenting information and facilitating a group as you often use these skills frequently in your volunteer work.

Learn to effectively present material to an audience.  A variety of presentation skills and techniques will be covered for those presenting to both Girl Scout and non-Girl Scout audiences.
