Note from CEO Lynelle McKay

Fellow Girl Scouts,

What a great first month it has been!  It was a pleasure to meet those of you who attended the Meet and Greets held at all our service centers.  Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to come and visit with me.  This great first tour of the council was a wonderful way to begin my tenure as the CEO of GSCTX!   I was able to cover our eight service centers in my first three weeks.  At each location I met with our girls, volunteers, staff, board members and a key donor or foundation.  During the visits, I learned more about our council and its history, our girls, our challenges and our opportunities.  It opened my eyes to the strengths and diversity of the families and communities that make up our council.  Each time I met one of our amazing girls it validated my decision to join the Girl Scout family and reaffirmed my commitment to serve you and our mission.

Together we will make the necessary improvements that we all talked about.  We will deliver the best leadership experience for our girls, support our volunteers, and ultimately transform GSCTX into one of the highest performing councils in the country, one that each and every one of us is proud to represent.

All the best,

Sarah Y. embodies the true spirit of a Girl Scout! In addition to earning her Gold Award, Sarah received the 2013 Youth Award of Excellence from the Texas Beautiful Initiative. Sarah's work as the Youth Director with Discover Green has been featured in several publications such as Community Impact and earned her praise among her peers and mentors. Her passion lies with environmental conservation and Sarah has made it her top priority to develop projects that serve this purpose as well as gathering volunteers and applying for grants. Congrats on all of your success Sarah and keep up the good work!
Girl Scouts from the Bryan and College Station area have spent the summer enjoying new programs courtesy of Girl Scout supporter, Blue Bell Ice Cream! Girls traveled to the Blue Bell headquarters in Brenham to learn about the history and making of the iconic ice cream. After chatting with staff, the girls made their own ice cream and even got to taste test it! What a fun day!

Upon completion of the video, the troop completed their Media Journey and got one step closer to earning their Silver Award. Way to go girls!
