Giving & Receiving Honor @ Work

Genesis 41:41-43a (KJV): "And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had..."

COMMENTARY: Would you agree that Christ-followers in the workplace should be known for their wisdom and good works? If a Christian in the workplace is honored in some fashion, albeit a promotion, raise, bonus, award or perk, are those not blessings of God for godly behavior? Why, then, should we resent or ridicule those honors, the giver of those honors, or the recipient of those honors?

APPLICATION: If a Godly person (not perfect) receives honors at work, rejoice that wisdom and goodness are being acknowledged, valued and encouraged. Beware of envy, jealousy and Pharisaical motives, feelings and thoughts. The Lord may be trying to reveal impurities in you through honors bestowed upon others. And, if you're the one receiving a promotion, raise, bonus, award or perk, don't feel embarrassed, apologetic or guilty about it. Give God the glory, receive the honor in grateful and cheerful humility, receive the intended encouragement and affirmation, and keep on keeping on!

Joyfully yours,
