BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY IN 2018
Members and Friends of YANA:
I hope you enjoyed the holiday season and feel recharged
and replenished a
s we stand at the threshold of a new year.
When YANA was first launched on a snowy New York evening in January 2011, who could have guessed that in the ensuing 7 years, there would be regional chapters spread across the US -- as well as international chapters in formation in India, Sweden, and Switzerland? Whether we call it nonprofit, social impact, giving back, or changing lives -- it's clear that the desire to make the world a better place is alive and well throughout the YANA community.
As we chart our individual goals and priorities for 2018, there's an important area that I'm asking everyone to keep top-of-mind. This past November, the Yale Alumni Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) delivered a comprehensive set of recommendations to the University to guide DEI practices across the Yale community. For quick reference: the full report,
a summary of recommendations, and the DEI video can all be accessed
here
.
Going forward, all of YANA's programs and policies should be guided by DEI, whether race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, etc. Successful DEI is a matter of awareness and will, not budget. President Salovey understands and endorses this work, and those of us who served on the Task Force believe that an innovative, sustainable platform for DEI that informs Yale -- and the world beyond Yale
--
has the potential to be one of
the signature programs of the Salovey Administration.
I invite everyone to read the report, review the recommendations,
and come back to me with any comments or suggestions.
With all best wishes for 2018,
-Ken Inadomi '76, YANA Founding Chair

YANA UPDATES: WHAT'S NEW
|
2 out of 3 Yale alumni are involved in the nonprofit and social enterprise sectors. That's 110,000+ alums who are executive directors, practitioners, board members, donors, or volunteers.
YANA's membership represents a diverse and dedicated group of alumni and friends, whose nonprofit and social impact interests include the arts and culture, climate change, education, healthcare, poverty, and social justice. Membership is open to all who are mission driven and committed to making the world a better place, whether or not you have a direct Yale affiliation. YANA is entirely volunteer-led; and we rely on the generosity of our members and those who believe in social good to support our inspiring programs.
