This week's prayer visualization

A prayer for honest service in economic life. 

Blame for the current Great Recession has been placed on many groups: the government for relaxing mortgage standards, which fueled the housing bubble; Wall Street for buying mortgages without inspection to fuel their fraudulent mortgage-based securities sold all around the world; and of course, the homeowner who took out a mortgage without wondering why no one was asking for income verification (or who made up an income number while the lender winked.) Also complicit were many other entities -- especially European and USA politicians -- who simply continued to spend money to buy votes even though they had no possible way to pay the money back. US obligations now total over a hundred thousand dollars per household. 

In truth many, many people were involved in our current crisis, because in every case, someone was attempting to "manipulate others for financial gain." The Great Recession was caused by the Great Deception, a world-wide trend of giving in to greed, temptation, and dishonesty. What followed, of course was not just a near total collapse of the world financial system, but the final destruction of the system of trust that made the whole thing work in the first place. From that point on -- between banks, businesses, and individuals -- a cloud has hung over every transaction -- was the other person representing himself honestly? Was his word good? Would he hold up his end of the bargain? Pay his bills? 

Perhaps this breakdown of trust had to occur in order for us to remember its importance in human relationship. We had to test out the way of mass greed before we could know how destructive it is to world progress. The lesson: don't do anything that is in any way manipulative, or greedy, toward others, because somehow it comes back to us. In fact I would say that enough of us have chosen the path of service again to see that it is the great activator of this world's spiritual design. 

Manipulate others, or be dishonest in any way in economic life, and we karmically draw into our lives others who manipulate and mislead us. Not as punishment, but to show us the damage we do to others. Act honestly, and in the service of others, and we draw into our lives people who act the same way, synchronistically showing up in our lives to bring us truth and helpfulness just when we need it most. That is the power of the Service Attitude. It may be the only way to be lucky and prosperous in these times.
