Women in communities across the world came together for the first day of the "Wall of Women" action, organized by the Women's Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN International) as a means of giving voice to the climate issues, solutions and demands of women across the world.
The organization led an initial Wall of Women action at today's People's Climate March in New York, where members and allies of the organization linked together in demonstration and displayed signage demanding that world leaders take immediate steps to address climate change.
"We have asked women here in New York with us this week, as well as those equally impassioned across the globe, to stand in solidarity and physically link together to demonstrate our role in the protection and defense of the 'web of life,'" said Osprey Orielle Lake, co-founder and executive director of WECAN International. "The Wall of Women action is a powerful, visual expression of our demand that world leaders end years of stagnation and act ambitiously for real solutions that address underlying issues of social and environmental justice."
WECAN International will organize a second Wall of Women demonstration tomorrow, Sept. 22 at the Church Center for the United Nations in New York, immediately following the organization's 'Women Leading Solutions on the Frontlines of Climate Change' event being held there from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
