A Note From Pastor Bill: Life in 2018

What value do you place on people? What if someone becomes physically or mentally challenged?  What if a test detects cancer?  What if one is unable to financially support himself or herself?  What if one becomes terminally ill and requires long term care?  What if one is diagnosed with an incurable disease?  What if one ends up in a bad marriage or a dysfunctional life?

In these situations, does a person's value diminish?  Is the value of human life about achievement or success?  Is there a physical or intellectual measurement to value a human life?  Is our culture changing so that space is limited to only people that add value to society?  Do you believe there is growing acceptance of eugenics which divides people according to their value?

It has been 45 years since Roe vs. Wade made any reason of choice to end a pregnancy legal.  Sixty million babies have been aborted in the United States since 1973.  Sixty million babies are aborted globally ever year. What was once a tragic necessity has become an accepted solution.  Abortion is the most common surgical procedure in America, following circumcision.  Where is the value in all of that?

The value of life is not based on some capacity to perform or some measurement of human reason or understanding...continue reading

Fear Anxiety and Wellness: Journey to a Heart at Peace
Join us January 28 and February 4 at 9:30 to learn a simple, powerful way to help those who experience fear in their lives. We'll be studying the book Fear Anxiety and Wellness: Journey to a Heart at Peace written by Dr. John Eckrich, M.D, founder of Grace Place Wellness Ministries. This book draws on both the professional and personal experience of a physician who has traveled that same fear filled journey. He offers powerful and practical guidance from a medical, behavioral, and most important, a Christ-directed perspective to help you on the journey to a heart at peace. To pick up a book before the class starts see Nanette Dost, Jane Cauchon, or Judith Meyer.

Book Drive- Mother's Day Out
We received a Thrivent Action Team grant aimed at upgrading our book collection for our Mother's Day Out program.  If your child received too many books or duplicates at Christmas, consider donating for our MDO.  We are looking specifically for Jesus books and those which share about Christian/Bible teachings.  MDO is part of our overall Christian Education ministry at Timothy, and that includes chapel attendance and books that interest and teach this age range.   Books should be new or in like-new condition, sturdy and appropriate for ages 4 and under.   Contact DCE Mark or Cheryl O'Neil for more information on books needed.  Thanks for your support!

Rummage Sale. Saturday, March 24th. "One Person's Junk is Another Person's Treasure."

Adult Instruction Class
We will soon be starting up another adult instruction class.  The classes will take place on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.  Please let Pastor Bill know if you would like to attend.
GROWING TOGETHER

Bible Study KEY CONCEPTS
A new Bible study begins today in the Multi-Purpose Room called "Key Concepts".  We will look at twenty plus important doctrinal issues that are foundational for Lutheran teachings.  Join us to see how God's Word clarifies and defines what we believe, teach, and confess.

Lutheran Witness
The Lutheran Witness Subscriptions are due on February 1st, 2018.  They are $16.00 this year.  Use the envelope in your new offering envelope box, or send $16.00 with name and address of the person to receive the magazine.
The new subscription will begin in April of 2018.

Mission Trip to Gambia
Pastor Loum is going on a Medical Trip to Gambia in March, and is inviting interested members of the congregation to go along.  For more information please see Pastor Loum.

Gambia Mission
Some remote congregations in Gambia have been unable to hear the Word of God because the evangelists have been unable to travel to worship with them.  Support for this ministry would be $100.00/month.  If you should wish to help support this important ministry, mark your gift to Timothy with the word "Gambia".  Pastor John Loum.
STEWARDSHIP
Giving Statements
Your 2017 giving statements are available in the narthex.  As always if you notice any errors please call the church office right away so we can correct your statement and get it back to you.  If you have not picked up your envelopes yet, they are available in the narthex as well!

Share Your Gifts-Egg Hunt Leadership Needed
Our annual Egg Hunt outreach is an important annual event for our children and young families.  It is a great opportunity for our church to serve our neighbors and be visible in our community.  We need a leader or team of leaders to help make this day special.  Please talk to DCE Mark Thompson if you are interested and/or have questions.  The date for EGG HUNT 2018 is March 24.

FOOD PANTRY APPEAL
This cold weather has hit a lot of families.  Our food pantry has distributed food to a lot of individuals this past month.  Therefore, the pantry has been hard hit, and our 'cupboards' are almost bare.  We are in dire need of a number of items including canned fruit, canned chili, canned spaghetti sauce, toilet paper, canned tuna and chicken, soups, and many other items.  Please consider purchasing some of these items and placing them in the box in the Narthex of the church.  Our food pantry is open the first and third Thursdays of each month.  Thanks.  The Pantry Committee.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School Notes for week of January 21
Peter's Escape from Prison - Acts 12
This Sunday School lesson teaches children the another story of Peter.  As it was for him, so it is for us today. The Word of God is never proclaimed in vain. Though we suffer because of the sin of others, God's will is done. You can discuss with your children about modern-day world working against the Church of God and how, even in the midst of persecution, God sustains and increases His Church. How does God's Word break through the chains of our sin and the suffering it causes?
Memory Verse:
[Nothing] will be able to separate us from the love of God. Romans 8:39
