Good Morning All -
This Thursday is a "Special Edition" of our Summer Monthly Brewfest. The event falls on my Dad's Birthday, June 18th. He passed away nearly 10 years ago so I wanted to toast him at this social gathering. If you never met him, Bill "
Big Kahuna" Liebowitz looked like a cross between a mafia crime boss and a wrestling giant. He stood 6'6", was well over 300 pounds and had a heart of gold (pun intended). In addition, he ALWAYS wore his signature Hawaiian Shirt wherever he went. To illustrate, here's a picture from the 2004 SDCC of my parents with the late Archie writer for over 50 years, George Gladir:
if you are planning to come to the event, please feel free to follow my lead and wear a HAWAIIN SHIRT and sample my home brewed Big Kahuna Ale as well as my Back Issue Belgian and some Golden Apple Champagne Cider. The event is from 6-8pm and as a reminder, ALL SINGLE BACK ISSUES WILL BE
25% OFF DURING THE EVENT.
So come, mingle, tell or listen to stories of our Founder Bill and enjoy some craft beer samples and discounted comics.
I have to mention 3 more great LA events:
1) This Friday is the Marvels of Burleque event at Fais Do Do in LA. They have graciaously given Golden Apple a 1 hour event space before the festivities begin. You must come down and check out the SUPER-POWER HAPPY HOUR!
Drink Specials, FREE Raffle tickets to win amazing gifts from Golden Apple and a Photo Booth to take pics with the lovely performers. This is all going down from 7:30-8:30pm on Friday!
2) The Tournament of Nerds at the Upright Citizens Brigade Sat. June 20th at midnight:
Who would win in a fight, Batman or Wolverine? Superman or Gandalf? Questions like these have plagued humankind for decades, but only Tournament of Nerds can settle these disputes...by pitting two comedians against each other to battle it out in heated debate!
This performance is extra special because it is on our buddy Marc Andreyko's Birthday. He is one of the judges of these epic battles for over five years running. This show should be extra fun. For tickets click below.
3) Back To the Future LIVE at the Hollywood Bowl!
Power up your DeLorean, recharge your flux capacitor, and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Back to the Future as never before: in HD on the Bowl's big screen with the LA Phil performing Alan Silvestri's dazzling score live - with approximately 15 minutes of new music and original cast members! A quick sports update: Looks like Cali team Golden State Warriors hope to finish off Lebron James and the Cavs this week and TEAM USA is looking good to advance to the next round in the Woman's World Cup. The next crucial game is tomorrow vs. Nigeria. Go USA!
