Discovery Awaits Campaign in full swing

People are naturally curious about the process of collecting, researching, and discovering the stories behind the astonishing array of artifacts in our collection. And who can blame them? We think it's exciting too! These chance encounters with curious visitors got us thinking: if people are fascinated about what's happening "behind the scenes," why don't we bring our work to the front of the house?

Drawing: artist's rendering of remodeled Golden History Center

Golden History Center is in the midst of its Discovery Awaits Campaign to raise $325,000. This multi-faceted project will completely transform the building into a warm, welcoming and vibrant public space for uncovering and sharing our past. The renovation includes new programming spaces, a research center, and dynamic new exhibits that showcase the City's fabulous collection of historic artifacts.

For more information about the Master Plan and to learn how you can contribute to the project, visit GoldenHistory.org/DiscoveryAwaits.

Golden History Museums receives $70,000 from Scientific and Cultural Facilities District

The Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) Board of Directors approved the distribution of $70,000 to Golden History Museums in September. This is part of roughly $1.2 million that went to Jefferson County cultural organizations this year.

SCFD supports arts, cultural, and scientific organizations through a voter
- approved penny sales tax on every $10 purchase.

A complete list of funded organizations, awards, and check ceremony information is available online at scfd.org.

Golden's top ten events and more!

Epic Events, a new timeline experience spanning 150-plus years of Golden history, is now open at Golden History Center

Epic Events showcases over three dozen events. From the founding of Golden to the discovery of the world's first T-rex tooth, we cover a huge spectrum of material. Visitors will also discover Colorado Prohibition, William "Buffalo Bill" Cody's burial, and a blizzard that dumped five feet of snow on the town, all of which are paired with some amazing artifacts.

The entire family will want to dress up and take a selfie in front of a huge photo backdrop of our c. 1908 postcard depicting tourists with donkeys - once a common sight in Golden.

Take a look at our 3rd and 4th grade in-school game session that combines economics and Colorado history. Kids love it!

Read the details and then tell your favorite teacher about it.

"We LOVED the program! Our kids were thoroughly engaged and learning while having fun. Some of my boys even said, "It was worth it" when they realized they missed recess to complete the game. (That's huge!) We will definitely book again next year."
