Pancakes, parades...must be Buffalo Bill Days!

Buffalo Bill Days are 4 days of fun that happen every July in Golden in celebration of  William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody who was buried on Lookout Mountain exactly 100 years ago in 1917.

What began as a trail ride up Lookout Mountain to Buffalo Bill's grave in the 1940's has grown to 4 days of activities put on by the Buffalo Bill Days Committee including everything from a golf tournament to a creative beard contest, a car show and tons of music and entertainment. And let's not forget the annual Golden Fire Department Pancake Breakfast happening Saturday morning, and now in it's 43rd year. Now that's a lot of pancakes! Come out, support the GFD, and fuel up for festivities with an all-you-can eat buffet of yumminess!

In addition to Buffalo Bill Days happening this weekend, the Splash is hosting the 2017 Colorado State Summer Club Swimming Championships and expecting 1,500 swimmers and 2,500 spectators. So needless to say, there's going to be a lot of visitors in Golden this weekend!

Keep reading for a rundown on what else is happening in Golden, and have a great week!

Linking Lookout (US 6 & 19th St. Interchange)

There will be lane closures on mainline US 6 east and west the next few weeks for landscape work in the median.

The westbound on-ramp to US 6 from 19th St. will reopen next Monday July 31. Also on July 31, the off-ramp from westbound 6 to 19th St. will be moved to the east at 19th to make room for grading, drainage and curbs. Because of this relocation, left turns to go west on 19th will need to be done by turning right and u-turning at the Elm St roundabout. This condition will last until the end of August.

Pedestrians are now using the final trail across the lid, but pay attention when you when you drive, walk or ride through the area -- there is landscape activity all around.

The ramp to westbound 6 will be paved this week ahead of the reopening next Monday.

There is a construction viewing area in the northwest corner that can be accessed from Parfet Estates Drive, and is an excellent location to view ongoing work. Please park legally.

"Let's Talk Solar" Open House and Volunteer Recruitment Meeting

Golden's Community Sustainability Advisory Board (CSAB) is taking steps to bring a community solar garden to Golden. The first step in the process is for citizens to vote whether to add renewable energy as an allowable land use at the Rooney Road Sports Complex. While no specific solar garden project is under consideration at this time, if voters approve the use of renewable energy at the site, next steps will be to amend the current lease with Jefferson County and look for a favorable project. Learn more about the  Community Solar Ballot Initiative.

Join CSAB members for a "Let's Talk Solar" open house and volunteer recruitment meeting on August 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Golden Community Center.
