IMPORTANT Information About Traffic on US 6!

In the June edition of the Golden Informer, we stated that by now, traffic would already be driving on US 6.  Mother Nature wasn't good to us with blizzards and hail storms!  So the official opening is now THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON, June 8.

With the good news comes some bad.  Although US 6 will finally be open for through traffic, there will be a  two week closure of the eastbound US 6 off ramp at 19th Street starting June 12.  Please check out the details in the Linking Lookout section below.

Thanks for your patience as we finalize the Linking Lookout project!

The phase 4 traffic switch date is this Thursday June 8th in the afternoon. This phase will move US 6 through traffic on to the new pavement under the lid.

The two-week eastbound US 6 off ramp closure is scheduled to begin June 12th. Traffic looking to come into Golden from the north along 93 or from out of the canyon will need to use SH 58 to Washington Ave. If you forget and end up at the closed ramp your best option is to go to Heritage Rd. and do a U turn with the traffic light. As always, watch for details on the Linking Lookout page will have up to date information.

Cleaning, striping and impact attenuators are being completed under the lid in preparation of the Thursday traffic switch.

Concrete curbs and medians are mostly finished, we are pouring concrete aprons behind the curbs medians are being fill with planting soil in preparation for landscaping and irrigation and installation. The contractor plans to work this Saturday to complete the aprons.

Construction of the water quality pond near the hang gliding landing field continues weather permitting. Park only in designated areas if you are accessing the landing field or Chimney Gulch Trail. Excess material from this area is being used to fill medians.

Irrigation and lighting work continues on the lid, as well as lighting under the bridge.

There is a construction viewing in the northwest corner that can be accessed from Parfet Estates Drive, and is an excellent location to view ongoing work. Please park legally.

Since the hailstorm of May 8, the Building Department has been inundated with questions from homeowners on how best to initial repairs. In other words, will your permits be through the City of Golden or Jefferson County? To check to see if an address is in the city limits of Golden, go to the Jefferson County Address Wizard and look under Municipal Status.

Also, we have put information on the City of Golden Building webpage with links to documents that will help get you started, whether you have a roof to repair or windows or siding to replace.

Around Town
Should Golden offer broadband? Take our survey!

Based on feedback from several residents and businesses, the City of Golden is looking into the potential deployment of gigabit broadband throughout the community. The City believes that affordable high quality broadband is a critical service for quality of life in Golden, as is the case with roads, water, sewer, and electricity.

To determine whether or not the City should offer broadband services, the City is conducting  both a residential and a business Survey of Broadband Services. The survey was prepared by the City of Golden Broadband Task Force. The Broadband Task Force was formed shortly after the passage of the ballot initiative exempting the City from the constraints of Senate Bill 152. The Task Force consists of citizens of Golden with a range of technical and professional backgrounds.

The Residential Survey should only be completed if you are a resident within Golden city limits (not sure? Check the  Jefferson County Address Wizard). The Business Survey should only be completed if your Business location is within Golden city limits.
Your input as a citizen of and/or a business within Golden is a very important component to the City's understanding of Broadband Services currently being provided. Your response will take only a few minutes and responses are anonymous.
