Cultural Competence Training

Tuesday, November 15th @ 9AM

On Tuesday November 15 at 9AM, MSW Intern Danielle Spadine, MS from Marywood University will be providing training for all staff and volunteers on Cultural Competence.  We at Volunteers In Medicine recognize that we serve a diverse population and strive to be inclusive.  This brief session will increase our cultural awareness, which is the foundation of communication and involves the ability of standing back from ourselves and becoming aware of our cultural values, beliefs and perceptions.

Please let us know if you will be able to attend, contact Julie Lane at [email protected]

Name tag program
Name tags for the volunteers and staff are available to wear while providing services at VIM. Below are some of the reasons as to why nametags are helpful in the work place.

Build Corporate Identity
Nametags contribute to corporate branding, by adding the business logo to every employee in the company. While nametags are typically restricted to use in the office, they will inevitably get worn to business lunches or even the gas station on the way home from work. The company name gets advertised to the outside world through the people that have made your clinic what it is. Company nametags can even be used to advertise special promotions and events.

Help Employees Address One Another
Nametags allow staff and volunteers in different departments to build a sense of camaraderie faster. It is also very helpful when new students and volunteers start at VIM and others are unsure of their names.

Keeps Professional Offices Secure
When staff are all required to wear company name badges, it is easy to quickly identify who belongs in the office and who does not. Name badges do more than identify employees; they keep outsiders away from the back office.

Provides Way for Patients to Identify Employees
When your employees wear company name badges, it becomes easy for patients to identify the individuals that are providing care to them. This practice is especially helpful with face to face meetings and even when patients come to the check-in window.

Creates a Conversation Opening
Name badges can be a great way for a patient, student or volunteer to start up a conversation with one of your employees. This nametag also provides accountability for service employees because the client/patient knows exactly who he is dealing with from the first moment he makes contact with staff member. These name badges offer patients additional comfort in knowing at least a piece of information about the healthcare provider before he/she begins a private conversation with them.

Nametags are being added to the Volunteers in Medicine culture to ensure that patients are comfortable, additional safety precautions, properly identify new volunteers and students, and the increase in overall professionalism.

Thank you for your cooperation on wearing your new name tag!!
