Meeting Big Challenges with Big Solutions Through Pro-Bono Service

Dallas always has to do things bigger, and we did it again by hosting the largest Billion+ Change conference in the country! On January 23rd, Dallas showed up in a BIG way to recognize business and civic leaders who are tackling critical community needs through skills-based volunteerism. The 10th in a series of these conferences implemented by the Points of Lights Foundation across the country, EFNT was thrilled to host over 130 business and nonprofit leaders at Communities Foundation of Texas as Mayor Mike Rawlings, George P. Bush, Chef Dean Fearing and executives from Deloitte, Capital One, American Airlines, AT&T, IBM and others spoke about the power of pro-bono.

This event served as a catalyst for five EFNT Memeber Companies, including Insite Interactive, SevaYatra, Executives in Action, Social Impact Architects and GeoWhiz Universe, to take the Billion + Change pledge to create or expand a skills-based volunteer program in their workplace. As Doug Levy, CEO of MEplusYOU said at the event, we are "building a cathedral" together, and together, we can inspire the largest commitment of corporate pro-bono service in history.

March Plug 'N Play

Closing the achievement gap for low-income students requires a comprehensive approach - a model that links children and families, educators, and community volunteers through a low-cost, high-impact program that delivers remarkable results for students, year after year. Reading Partners is this model.

Reading Partners recruits community volunteers to work with students from kindergarten through 5th
grade who have fallen behind in reading. On average, students gain 1.6 months of skills for every month in the Reading Partners program.

Reading Partners' Plug 'N Play event on Friday, March 1st from 8:15-10:30am, will give EFNT Member Companies an opportunity to experience the Reading Partners program firsthand and provide crucial literacy services to a student.

New EFNT Member Companies starting strong!
Since joining EFNT late fall, new Member Companies,
Imaginuity and jcpenney, are hitting the ground running!

Imaginuity
went beyond our imagination by showing up in full force to two custom service projects, as well as our 12th annual Freedom Day at Zumwalt Middle School!  They also attended EFNT's first annual Corporate Impact Conference, Communities Foundation of Texas' Professional Advisor Breakfast and EFNT's annnual Holiday Party. Phew!

jcpenney
joined EFNT as a generous sponsor of the Corporate Impact Conference and has participated in two Plug 'N Plays.  One of the PNPs was serving meals to the homeless at The Bridge on MLK Day. jcpenney employees also attended our skills-based volunteer conference with Billion+Change.

"We at jcp Philanthropy are thrilled to be part of EFNT!" says Jonathan Macaranas,
Director of Philanthropy at jcpenney. "The few members with whom we've met so far have been great thought partners as we all strive to 'do good' in our beloved communities."
