GSN Presents at Colorado State Capitol on Bullying

On May 15th, GSN's Christina Larson presented on the dangers and effects of bullying and how to stop it. Students, parents, and teachers were hosted by Representative Faith Winter to learn more about how to combat bullying in schools. After the presentation, Representative Winter facilitated a role-playing activity with the students which educated them on the process of a bill becoming a law and informing them that bullying is illegal. If you'd like GSN to present at your school on bullying and understand more about how schools and adults can create an anti-bullying environment, please contact   Leslie Tjajadi.

Schools currently benefitting from bullying prevention work with GSN include:
  • Westgate Community School
  • Manzanola Elementary and Jr/Sr High
  • Fowler Elementary and Jr/Sr High
  • Fisher's Peak Elementary
  • Trinidad Middle School

Taproot Speed Consulting Benefits New GSN Program

NYC staff spent a day in May  participating in Taproot Foundation's Make It Matter Pro Bono Speed Consulting event. As one of the nonprofits selected for this experience, Generation Schools Network was matched with highly qualified, subject matter experts to help strategize our organization's initiatives. The speed consulting session was broken up into three sections -- Human Resources, Finance, and Marketing --  giving GSN the opportunity to gather powerful insights around our new Education via Engagement Program. The insights will better equip us to realize our mission of making quality education accessible for all.

GSN Hosts 2nd Year of Turnaround Leadership Program Retreats!

From June 12-16th, GSN partnered with Battelle for Kids' Denise Snowden to host the 2nd year of the retreat for participants in the Turnaround Leadership Program. Outcomes included  planning professional development, coaching rotations and strategies and problem-solving across districts. Participants also enjoyed the town of Crested Butte!

CSU-Global and Colorado Rural Education Collaborative Prepare Rural K-12 Educators for Dual Enrollment Instruction, Giving Students a Head Start on College and Saving Families Money

Almost immediately after the formal launch of the Colorado Rural Education Collaborative in summer 2015, rural districts expressed great concern over new guidelines being put into place by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. Unless teachers could find a way to bolster their credentials, concurrent enrollment in some rural districts was set to drop by 50%. The Collaborative took action and partnered with CSU-Global Campus, the Santa Fe Trail BOCES, Generation Schools Network and Battelle for Kids to create a plan of action that was later funded by the Colorado Department of Higher Education.
