Colorado State University Innovation Lab Undertakes Third Party Evaluation of GSN's SEL/Advocacy Program!

The Innovation Lab from Colorado State University (CSU) recently conducted a fast-paced and productive retreat to begin the evaluation of GSN's SEL curriculum in four Colorado school districts. On June 13th and 14th, Westgate Community School, Bennett Elementary School, Primero School District, and Las Animas High School took part in the preparation work. Teachers, parents and student representatives gave their feedback on the implementation of Advocacy. GSN looks forward to work with CSU and the schools as we continue to take steps to expand the research base in support of our programming. Thanks to the Colorado Health Foundation for making the work possible!

BGS Celebrates 2017 Commencement!

Brooklyn Generation School family, friends, and staff gathered at the Kumble Theater at Long Island University to celebrate the BGS Class of 2017 on June 27th. Students entered the theater in a dancing processional, followed by remarks from art teacher, Octavia James, parent coordinator Robin Simmons, and an inspiring and emotional send-off from principal Lydia Colon Bomani. Twin sisters, Ismaelle and Elodie Oriental, were awarded the highest honors of Valedictorian and Salutatorian and will be attending college at John Jay College and Hunter College. "It is extremely gratifying to see the pride and joy on the faces of these kids as they mark the milestone.  In the words of a GSN Board Member, "We can only speculate as to how they might have fared in a more traditional school, but my conclusion is that the GSN model helped them beat the odds and gave them a platform for success". Congratulations to the BGS Class of 2017!
