BROOKLYN GENERATION SCHOOL HOSTS MIDDLE SCHOOL
OPEN HOUSE

Did you know that BGS has a 100% college acceptance rate and 1:1 computers?  On November 18, 2016, BGS hosted a middle school open house at the South Shore campus to make sure potential middle schoolers, their guidance counselors, and parents got those key facts and a whole lot more! Students came from two middle schools in District 18 for a tour of the school, the community room, and the College Prep Academy. Students even got to see performances and participate in activities offered by the STEP and dance group. The open house happened just in time for the December 1st high school application deadline. During her closing speech, BGS Principal Lydia Colon-Bomani inspired the visiting students with key advice: "Wherever you decide to go, whatever it is you decide to do, when you leave here, you are writing your story now."

GSN COMPLETES ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (PD) PATHWAY & CURRICULUM PROJECT WITH THE HELP OF THE MORGRIDGE FAMILY FOUNDATION!

Thanks to a timely and generous investment, the GSN team was able to complete important and relevant Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Units, College and Career Readiness (CCR) Lessons, and Career Exploration Units. Each topic was chosen by our team for its high-yield impact and the research base around student development. The project also included a three-course PD pathway for teachers learning to implement SEL/Advocacy in their classrooms. GSN team members Leslie Tjajadi, Katie Peyton, Isabelle King, and Melissa Muniz led the work, but were helped by almost every other member of the team! GENERATION SCHOOLS NETWORK HAS BECOME AN APPROVED VENDOR FOR NYC CHARTER SCHOOLS!

The GSN model and resources also place a heavy focus on college and career readiness. For information on new charter school development, existing school redesign or support for social/emotional learning or college/career readiness in the NYC area, please contact East Coast Director, Claude Aska.
