Brooklyn Generation School Students participate in Teambuilding at Ramapo for Children

On March 14th and 15th, 42 Brooklyn Generation School students and three BGS staff members embarked on a trip to Ramapo for Children, a year-round camp nestled in Rhinebeck, New York. The primary focus of this trip was to build community and social and emotional skills among BGS students. Students settled into cabins and participated in large and small group activities with a Ramapo leader. Students also had the option

of ladder climbing or rock climbing, or to go on a short hike in the woods, where they learned about the process of making maple syrup, observed deer foot prints, and caught a view of the Catskill Mountains. For many students, this was their first time trying such an activity and provided them the perfect moment to step out of their comfort zone and conquer their fears. This trip to Ramapo for Children gave BGS students a chance to take on challenging collaborative team building activities, interact with students they may not have known very well, step out of their comfort zones, and prepare them for educational opportunities both in and out of the classroom.

Primero School District Celebrates their Creating Healthy Schools Grant!

Generation Schools Network had the privilege of supporting Primero School District in their Creating Healthy Schools planning grant through facilitating a year of monthly meetings that resulted in the completion of a Comprehensive School Health and Wellness Plan presented in a community celebration on March 9th. The plan covered 6 areas of health and wellness; physical activity, nutrition, school climate and culture, student health services, health education, and behavioral health. The community presentation took place during Primero's parent teacher conferences, where GSN, supported by Primero's wellness committee, shared next steps with over 40 families. The plan was well received by the community, and the work will be continued as Primero peruses the Implementation portion of the grant this summer.
