Brooklyn Generation School's  Tara Leach has been nominated by a former student for Blackboard's Teacher Appreciation Month Sweepstakes!  The former student wrote about all the support she got after her mother passed away, and said Ms. Leach "Is an all-around amazing teacher and human being who cares for her students.  ... She loves her students and I respect her for it."

DOUBLE PEAK READINESS EVENTS IN ENGLEWOOD, CO!


GSN Partners Conduct Mock Interviews and Opportunity Fair! On Thursday, April 28th, Generation Schools Network partnered with Color ado's Finest High School of Choice (CFHSC) for a double Peak Readiness E vent at t he CFHSC cam pus in Englewood, Colorado. A Mock Interview event took place in which 24 professional volunteers from organizations such as Macy's an d Capitol Consulting took the time to interview and give professio nal feedback on resumes to 50 CFHSC students.
 
Additionally, 180 students had the opportunity to speak with vendors at an Opportunity Fair featuring possible job, internship, and volunteer experienc es for summer. Vendors at the Opport unity Fair included Panera Bread, Sears, Goodwill Industries, FedEx, Colorado History Center, Walmart, Chipotle, OpenWorld Learning, Café 180, and Colorado Young Leaders.

BGS RECEIVES DONATION FROM THE MUNICIPAL CREDIT UNION!


New donation helps seniors with an extra edge on final projects! 
Through the ongoing relationship with CBS Ecomedia, Brooklyn Generation has received $8,500 from the Municipal Credit Union (MCU) for technological upgrades. With these funds, BGS is purchasing new laptops and network printers for student use! The first priority for use will be for the graduating class to finish their senior projects. 

On April 14th, MCU came to  BGS for a  small recognition event, including a tour of the school and financial literacy sessions with students. We look  forward to sharing photos and  samples from our seniors as they
finish their  projects!

GSN VISTAs PARTICIPATE IN SERVICE BOWL!


Our team helped rehab a home in Denver after a Super Bowl bet!  Two of our Americorps VISTAs, Courtney Lancaster and Alicia Vasquez, were selected by the Corporation for National and Community Service participated in a Service Bowl on April 27th. They worked with Denver May or Michael Hancock and Charlotte, NC Mayor Jennifer Roberts, The Corporation for National and Community Service CEO, Wendy Spencer, and s everal former Broncos players to refurbish a home in West Denver. The project included both indoor and outdoor repairs and refurbishment. Both Mayors identified housing as a major priority for their administrations and expressed interest in a service project that would let them "get their hands dirty." 

Rebuilding Together is a national AmeriCorps grantee with affiliate locations with AmeriCorps members in both cities. The "Service Bowl" occurred after of a bet between Hancock and Roberts over who's team would win the Super Bowl. Since the panthers lost, Mayor Roberts came to Denver for the project! Go Broncos!

KIPP DC College Prep, Washington, DC - May 21st, 8am to 3pm

Three veteran teachers from Brooklyn Generation School-Eric Baker, Neil Garguilo, and Oksana Resnikova-will be presenting the use of Socratic Seminars to support learning. Their professional development session will focus on using Socratic Seminars in the context of teaching math standards. Share Fair Nation (SFN) leadership recently visited BGS and observed the teachers in action. Impressed by their methods, SFN asked the three teachers to share their classroom practices at the upcoming DC Share Fair Event.
