Habitat GO on Track to Complete Five Builds

Eve Street Dedication: Thanks to the  team from PCL Constructors Ottawa district, our Aboriginal Build on Eve Street was completed in record time this fall. In partnership with their suppliers and trade contractors, PCL was the home sponsor and general contractor on this single-family home build. Their employees, suppliers and tradespeople donated their time and materials for this unique project. We celebrated the completion of the elevated bungalow at a Dedication Ceremony with our new Habitat GO homeowner, Barb Wolfe, and her two daughters, Hannah and Pamela, on November 18. The ceremony featured a special blessing and smudging, as well as a key ceremony with Blake Goss, Project Manager, Special Projects for PCL. To view photos from the ceremony and the entire build, please click here.

Cousineau Street Construction:  Despite a delay this summer, our Construction Manager Steve and all of our volunteers have been working overtime to finish the four homes in Orleans by early 2016. Three of the four homes are at the drywall stage and the fourth home is now enclosed.

Please check out our Facebook page  for regular updates on the progress at the build site.

S pecial thanks as well to all of our volunteers, Adopt-a-Day teams, sponsors, food donors, suppliers and tradespeople for helping make the dream of homeownership a reality for our five Habitat Partner Families. Click here   to support our holiday appeal and read our 2015 Progress Report

Women Build Teams Set Fundraising Record

Women Build 2015 has been an overwhelming success with our 16 teams surpassing the $100,000 goal and raising more than $114,000 in total! This was the first time that we have held the Women Build program since 2008 and our Women Build teams amazed us with their fundraising expertise, community spirit and sense of fun. They  have helped build all four homes on Cousineau Street, from concrete and grouting to stapling, framing and drywall.

Our top five fundraising teams were the DS DOLLS, Women of Emergency & Protective Services, the Body Builders, Women at Bell and the Singing Hammers. Our top individual fundraiser was Marta Varisco as part of the FBC Hard Hats team.

The Women Build teams have also had a lot of fun on the build, with two special build site birthdays and a number of great accessories, from pink bandanas and sunglasses to orange hard hats and unique T-shirts. Plus we've also had a number of special guests, including Max, a therapy dog in training for the City of Ottawa's Emergency & Protective Services.

Everyone at Habitat GO would like to congratulate all of our Women Build participants and our Women Build Committee members for their hard work, ingenuity and dedication. Their  dedication will make a difference in the lives of our hard-working families for generations to come. Stay tuned for more details about Women Build 2016 in the new year!

Zombie Run for Humanity Raises $12,000

We are so grateful to Ryan Ricci and Susan Vacheresse, the founders for the Zombie Run for Humanity, for donating $12,000 to Habitat GO from the proceeds of this year's event. Alexis Ashworth was on hand to accept the generous donation. Special thanks to all of the sponsors, participants, volunteers and especially our build committee members who braved the elements to help build all of the course obstacles once again.
