We are a Bold, Holy, and  Catholic Parish!
How do I know that? Because I worship with you several times a week. Because I participate in many parish activities. I've seen you pray, I've seen you carry groceries downstairs from the Kroger-Gleaners-St. Clare project to provide for the needy.  Many times I've shared faith at our faith formation gatherings with you.  And because I know that, I have written down major events of this past week that I am grateful to see happening here at St. Clare of Montefalco,
  1. Thank you to our Knights of Columbus and our vocations from St. Clare and the fantastic gathering of last weekend.
  2. Thank you to our Confirmation candidates who made a recommitment last Sunday.
  3. And thank you to the Sunday social organizers and all who came for coffee and donuts.
  4. Thank you to the St. Vincent de Paul leaders and all the volunteers who assisted last weekend at the Kroger's collection.  (And you had an extremely cold weekend.)
  5. Thank you to those who have agreed to begin training to be Stephen Ministers.
  6. Thank you to those who attended the Tuesday Musicale.
  7. Thanks to those who gave blood at the Red Cross drive on Wednesday.
And there were 52 people last Thursday at the first installment of the Acts of the Apostles/Evangelization series.  Fantastic! But there should still be more!
Now, that is a whole lot of activities here! How were you involved?  To what did you contribute?

Priestly Vocations

Please pray for the men discerning a call to the priesthood during this weekend's discernment weekend at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. Thanks to your gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal, the archdiocesan Office of Priestly Vocations offers these firsthand, up close, and stress-free looks at seminary life several times a year. They include presentations on the four pillars of formation (Spiritual, Human, Intellectual and Pastoral fellowship), which are the foundation of the seminary formation program, as well as time for fellowship and prayer.  The next discernment weekend, for men who are high school  seniors to 55 years old, will be held March 22-25. Details about discernment weekends and discernment overnights, for high school freshmen to juniors, can be found at  For more information about CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, please go to

Warm Hands, Warm Hearts
The St. Clare Warm Hands, Warm Hearts collection takes place this weekend, January 20-21 .  Please look for our young Confirmation disciples and Christian Service members at the doors holding collection cans and placards.  This annual collection after Masses supports the St. Aloysius Neighborhood Services and the Pope Francis Warming Programs.  St. Al's is a neighborhood services program that reaches people on the streets with their bicycle carts.  The Pope Francis Warming Center provides food, showers, counseling and more.  We provide hand warmers for their programs and additional gifts of money to purchase coffee, sandwiches and much needed supplies.  Your donation of any size is greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance for your support.  Checks may be made out to St. Clare Church with Warm Hands in the memo line.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Red Cross Blood Drive held last Wednesday.  The "Gift of Life" touches lives in so many ways.  I wish to especially thank Tamara Smith for organizing and hosting this valuable project.
Come join us for the St. Clare Super Bowl Party to be held in the St. Clare Social Hall on Sunday February 4, 2018 .  After a successful Detroit Lions Tailgate Party during Oktoberfest we have decided to try a similar event for the Super Bowl.  Your $10 ticket will let you watch the game on the Jumbo Screen, eat pizza and hot dogs provided by your host PIC.  Please BYOB and a dish, appetizer, salad or dessert to share for a Pot Luck dinne r to support the pizza and hotdogs. Coffee, water and all paper products will be provided.  A sign-up board is on the parking lot wall in the church.  Come cheer for your favorite team and watch the commercials with friends!  Tickets go on sale this weekend at all Masses.  Tickets are also available at the Parish Office.  $10/person .
Finally, I continue to accept names and suggestions to help fill our maintenance positions at St. Clare.  In the months to come I will be looking to fill both a full-time as well as a part-time position.  Both positions involve various mechanical skills and custodial work to keep our buildings healthy and beautiful.  Thank you for your support.
Stephen Ministry - God's Love in Action
The Stephen Ministry training is off to a great start.  This weekend the class focused on three topics:
  1. Learning the five foundational characteristics of the caregiver is helpful but is also hard work!
  2. The importance of recognizing and accepting all the feelings people have.
  3. Honing their listening skills and finding out that listening well is extremely helpful and caring but also hard work.
We thank God for the continuing dedication of our Stephen
Minister trainees and ask for your continued prayers for them and for God's blessing upon their ministries.
