April 8, 2018 | Second Sunday of Easter
From the Desk of our Pastor
Fr. Andrew installation
I hope you had a great week of Easter.
Today is called "Divine Mercy Sunday" and its celebration concludes the octave of Easter. Not only does it serve as the eighth day, but it also includes a Gospel that refers to an event on the first octave day of the resurrection that is very much represented in the image of Divine Mercy. Once again thank you to ALL who made our Holy Week and Easter celebrations possible especially those who were responsible for turning our church into a beautiful place to hold Holy Triduum. Thank you for your presence at St. Philomena on Holy Thursday, at the Stations in the Street on Good Friday and other Easter celebrations. It truly was a great feast of our faith. Be Holy.

Chapel of St. Michael
In February we began the remodeling of a former confessional that later became a storage room in preparation for the installation of the new chapel dedicated to the powerful patron of the Church, St. Michael. This project spearheaded by our K of C is now complete. I would like to acknowledge a few people who made this project possible: Al Shaheen and his company for remodeling the storage room; Dave Bodien for his help with shipping, Merna Wolfslayer for donating tiles and chapel necessities, Tom LoPiccolo for retrofitting the iron grillwork on the entrance to the chapel and Michael McDevitt for his tireless support in coordinating and overseeing this project to completion. A special blessing of the chapel and statue takes place this weekend at the 4 pm, 9 and 11 am Mass with the transfer of the statue after 11 am Mass. Everyone is welcome. St. Michael pray for us.

Many Blessings
Thank you for all of you who supported Operation Rice Bowl and the Catholic Relief Services collection. Your donations support many projects both close to home and abroad. The resources you provide these organizations go a long way in assisting grass root efforts to assist the most vulnerable. Thank you for caring. This is the one time of year I pull out the ancient but very functional coin sorter to separate the loose coins and the roller machine to place in the sleeves. Lots of fun!
Eagle Scout Project:  Joseph Roarty will be laying pavers and creating a garden around the new school sign on Mack Ave. to help beautify St. Clare for his Eagle Scout project.  If you would like to make a small donation to help pay for supplies and materials please make checks to St. Clare Church and write Eagle Project in the memo line. Donations may be placed in the collection basket or mailed to the Parish Office. Thank you.

Faith Formation
I hope you are remembering that the Easter Season is 50 days long. Are you still celebrating the Resurrection?
Congratulations to our second-grade students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday morning. There is no Sunday family today, but I expect you to be at the Parable Project on Monday!
Monday, April 9. Tomorrow, all religious education classes will attend the Parable Project at St. Philomena at 6:30 PM. Please bring your child/children directly to St. Philomena. Attendance will be taken at the church. This should be a great experience for all of us. I am hoping you will join the children. This event is also the parent-child meeting for the children preparing for Eucharist. Our final religious education classes for both Sunday family and Monday classes will be on May 7 with a picnic get together. Please plan to join us to thank our teachers and our friends in the classes.

Friday Faith Formation
Friday Faith Formation will reconvene Friday, April 13, when we will begin the 8 week study “Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John.” Each session will consist of a video by Dr. Edward Sri, followed by discussion. We meet in the Whittier Room following the 8 am Mass (approximately 9 am) for an hour and a half.
Experience the Joy of Following Christ: Following Christ takes more than simply believing in him or doing what he asks of us. Jesus wants you to be more than just a believer — He wants you to be his disciple and friend. Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John is your guide to a personal encounter with Christ. As the Good Shepherd, Jesus seeks after us. He comes to meet us and beckons us to follow him. He calls us to be his disciples, to trust him, to open ourselves to his merciful love, and to love others as he has loved us. Follow Me invites you to experience the joy of a renewed friendship with Christ.
If you would like to order the companion workbook (which gives you online access to all videos) for $18, please e-mail stclarem5@gmail.com
This is a great opportunity to meet others, and develop your faith story as we
“Unleash the Gospel.”
