April 22, 2018 | Fourth Sunday of Easter
From the Desk of our Pastor
Blessed Easter
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your great support and the warm welcome my family and I received last weekend. The gifts and your hospitality, generosity, prayers, cards, and congratulatory wishes for my anniversary were truly heartfelt. I was deeply humbled by the presentation of the chalice from the St. Clare Community. It will serve as a reminder of this celebration and of my time here and the beauty of this community each time I raise in to the Glory of God during the consecration. Thank you to so many people who gave their time and hands to prepare the celebration of my 25th Anniversary. Everything from the beautiful music and decorations, food and hospitality, to make it joyful, fun, and prayerful. Some even learned to sing in Polish to make it special! Thank you all for journeying together to be Bold, Holy, and Catholic. Please, continue to pray for me as I will continue to pray for you. This is Good Shepherd Sunday, the World Day of Prayer for Vocation - may our prayers include this intention as well especially from our parish.

Final preparations are being made before our parishes celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. St. Clare on Tuesday, April 24 th at 6 pm with Bishop Hurley then St. Philomena on Sunday, April 29 th at 1 pm with Bishop Gumbleton. Thank you to all those involved in preparing our young parishioners for this special Sacrament. May the Holy Spirit strengthen the faith of our candidates as they journey in life.

St. Clare Parish hosted a vigil bringing attention to Gun Violence on Friday, April 20th at 6:30 PM in our parking lot. The We GP community organization along with many neighboring churches and community groups came together to hold a candle light vigil and honor the lives lost to gun violence, especially the lives of all our children. I am writing this article before the actual event but believe our willingness to host and participate in this event demonstrates our concern and need for positive change. This event is in solidarity with a national day of action on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine shooting. We came together as a community in solidarity with the victims, the families, and the loved ones of those impacted by gun violence. Thank you to all who attended.

Come support H.A.R.T. at St. Clare on Friday, May 18, by attending a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser in our Social Hall from 5:30 – 9 PM. We are excited to host and run this worthy event to support H.A.R.T. Our successful Bricks for Haiti project supported the rebuilding of their church and now we can help provide medical supplies and services for this village in Haiti struck by an earthquake in 2010. I would like to make this a parish wide effort to support H.A.R.T. and their projects in Haiti. There are many ways you can help. Look for the sign-up boards in the coming weeks. Make a dessert, help serve, wash dishes, or greet guests.

Christian Service Commission: Would you consider joining us for the 2018-2019 season? We meet monthly on Monday nights at 7:30 PM. Contact me if you would like more details.

School News
Mrs. Rodeghier reports that Grade 2 is learning 3-digit addition and subtraction. At the same time, the students are exploring more about money. That’s something we all would like to do. Grade 2 just made a wall display of why we LOVE Fr. Andrew, for his 25th Anniversary. Finally the 2 nd graders are working on their Magic Tree House. That sounds mysterious. We’ll have to wait for further news to find out what it all means.
St. Clare of Montefalco is hosting  their Open House/Curriculum Fair on Thursday, April 26, 2018. On this day, prospective students and families, will be able to tour and learn about St. Clare Catholic School. St. Clare School will open their doors from 6:00 – 8:00 pm to show families our classrooms, meet the teachers and even enjoy our students displays of work and projects. Please reach out and bring new family with you. We always look forward to seeing fresh new faces!
With many blessings,
Ann Tonissen, Principal
Christina Rodeghier, 2 nd Grade Teacher
St. Vincent de Paul News

The SVdP Donation container has arrived and is awaiting your contributions! Located in the St. Clare parking lot near Mack in front of the Athletic Center, the “pod” will be available until Monday, April 30th. Please bring your gently used clothing and household items anytime between now and then. It would be helpful if you could lower the sliding door once you make your delivery to protect the donations from our erratic weather! Small pieces of furniture are also welcome—however, if it takes more than one adult to move it, the piece is really too large for the container. You may make arrangements for a free pick-up by calling the SVdP Central office at 313-672-7837 or toll free at 877-788-4623.

Our SVdP Conference is always ready to welcome new members and interested observers. The next meeting is Tuesday, May 15th at 7 pm in the Parish Office. We are also hosting an SVdP informational seminar known as the Ozanam Orientation on Saturday, April 28th from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. Vincentians are requested to attend this workshop within their first year of service, but it is also a great program for anyone desiring to learn about the history, mission, and “Rule” of the Society.

For more information, contact Barb at barbarakoster@comcast.net or leave a message on the SVdP Assistance Line at 313-647-5062.
Thanks for helping us help others!

Servites - 125th Anniversary Year

This will be held at St. Clare of Montefalco on Saturday, May 5 at 10:30. This is part of the Servites 125th Anniversary Year of ministering in the United States.
