Friends -

A brief Annual Fund update with a week to go. As of Wed. Nov. 10:
• 64 individuals families participating
• $160,000 in pledges
• $100,000 in gifts
• $260,000 total gifts and pledges

Our budget is $518,000, of which about $88,000 will be met via (a) revenue from special services (weddings & memorial services) (b) campaign funds set aside to offset the cost of the Associate Minister salary & benefits, and (c) cash from the Sunday morning offering. So, we need $430,000 to make our budget. With a week left in the campaign and $260,000 raised, the gap we need to fill is $170,000.

How will that happen? Frankly, we have about 200 families - who by virtue of one or more of the following: (a) prior support (b) worship attendance (c) participation in our program and ministries we consider to be active participants in the life of our church - have yet to participate. If they can make a pledge or gift - at whatever level feels right to them practically and spiritually - we will have the resources needed to offer the ministry we feel called to provide.

If you'd like more information, email Tom . If you'd like to make an online gift, go to the secure FaithStreet icon on our webpage HERE . Thanks for your support of the Community Church and the 2018 Annual Fund. - Tom

Roots & Wings is our bi-weekly Sunday School for students K - 5. (children meet their teachers after the welcome) It's led by two extraordinary teachers - Mary Jo Stevenson and Teddi Koch. If you want to know why I say that, go across the street to Glen Rowan to Roots & Wings rather than worship in the Chapel and you'll know just what I mean. They are a gift to our church, and to our children. This week, children will learn about George Washington Carver who said “I love to think of nature as unlimited broadcasting stations, through which God speaks to us every day, every hour and every moment of our lives, if we will only tune in and remain so.” We'll learn from his life, as we affirm "in each moment, there are infinite possibilities!"

On Tuesday November 7th Zach arrived from Cleveland in a 16' Ryder truck with a donated universal gym for Orr Academy High School in Chicago. Above are workers putting the pieces of the gym in place at the new Orr weight room.

Here are three easy yet greatly needed volunteer jobs at our church. All relate to Sunday Morning:
• Greeters - be at church by 9:45 am and welcome people to church - and yes, there will be bulletins to distribute again starting Sunday!
• Flowers - bring flowers typically placed on the communion table
• Treats - bring for coffee hour (we take care of beverages, etc.) There's a sign up sheet on the back table at church ( and it really needs names! ) if you'd like to sign up for a date, or you can contact Terry Klausmeier HERE

Also, keep your eyes open - Beacon Place Christmas Boutique is
just around the corner - info in next week's newsletter!

Our Communication Manager Elliott Delman (pictured) has created a WONDERFUL video titled "End of Summer 2017" that captures the joy of our 2017 Beach Season. Not only did Elliott do most of the filming, he did all the editing AND wrote AND sang the song featured in the video. Spectacular job, Elliott - you can watch the video on our website or by clicking HERE

The Community Church is co-sponsoring the documentary movie "HEAL" on Wednesday Nov. 29. Showings will be held at both 12:30 & 7:30 pm in the Hughes Theater @ the Gorton Community Center. Here's info:
"Director Kelly Noonan Gores' documentary takes us on a scientific and spiritual journey where we discover that our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions have a huge impact on our health and ability to heal. The latest science reveals that we are not victims of unchangeable genes, nor should we buy into a scary prognosis. The fact is we have more control over our health and life than we have been taught to believe. This film will empower you with a new understanding of the miraculous nature of the human body and the extraordinary healer within us all."
Tickets are $20 at the door or available online at Forever Om Yoga
