Help #CureStigma During Mental Health Month

One in five Americans is affected by mental health conditions and stigma is an on-going issue. That is why Airport Marina Counseling Service is partnering with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to promote the #CureStigma campaign throughout the month of May - National Mental Health Awareness Month.

AMCS encourages you to pay special attention this month in how you deal with those in your lives who may be struggling with mental health issues. Be an ally. Encourage and support them as they seek the help they need. Examine your own behavior before judging others.

Now, more than ever, we need to make sure that everyone in our community receives the kind of high-quality mental health services AMCS provides. That means not being afraid to ask for help, not being afraid of the stigma that some have placed on mental health clients and working together to #CureStigma. I hope you will join us in ensuring that no one is alone on their mental health journey.

Wishing you nothing but good vibrations,

Community Partnerships
YMCA & Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa

As part of AMCS's on-going efforts to partner with local community organizations, we are proud to be playing a key role in two important partnerships.

Building on our long-term relationship with the Westchester Family YMCA, AMCS is now offering a series of parenting classes aimed at helping parents more effective communicate with their children. Participants in the class need not be members of the YMCA, but the YMCA will provide both space for the classes and childcare for those participating.

This will be an opportunity to learn skills to improve understanding of yourself and your child, learn to communicate effectively with reflective listening and the use of "I Messages," and get introduced to natural and logical consequences and how to implement that with their child.

For more information about the classes, please click here or call (310) 670-1410, ext. 150.

AMCS is also proud to announce its partnership with the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa as part of the Senior Health & Wellness Fair that will be held from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, June 2 at the Westchester Senior Center, 8740 Lincoln Boulevard.

The event, focus on those over 50 years old and their family and friends, will include a variety of free health care screenings, entertainment, giveaways, food and refreshments. The event is sponsored by Councilman Mike Bonin, in cooperation with the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa, the Del Rey Neighborhood Council and the L.A. City Department of Recreation and Parks. See you there!
