ON A POSITIVE NOTE
We heard this week that the economy is still on the up with growth of 0.8% in the first quarter of 2014. It was widely tipped that it might hit 0.9% or even 1% but that proved unfounded. However the news from The Office for National Statistics (ONS) does mean the economy is now just 0.6% smaller than its 2008 peak. So...some good news in the financial press, sadly that's not often the case. Even this week, we heard that the UK's largest retail investment manager, Invesco Perpetual, had been fined 18.6m by the city watchdog for exposing investors to unnecessary risk.
There is good news out there though, it's just it doesn't make 'good' headlines for the press, as the blog below shows.
