Governor to speak at Leadership Summit

Governor Bruce Rauner has confirmed that he will address the Alliance Leadership Summit at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, February 22. The governor will be giving his annual Budget Address tomorrow (Wednesday, February 15), so his appearance at the summit a week later will be very timely.

Summit attendees will have the opportunity to hear from all of state government's top educational leaders as Illinois Secretary of Education Dr. Beth Purvis and State Superintendent Dr. Tony Smith also are scheduled to appear at the summit.

There still is time to register for the February 21-22 summit at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield. Summit topics will include such timely items as the FY18 budget for K-12, school funding reform, the proposed property tax freeze and related unfunded mandate relief, pension reform, ESSA, and Vision 20/20 initiatives for this legislative session.

The summit also will feature a panel of legislators who have been involved in the governor's school funding reform commission as well as a Political Analysts Panel composed of journalists who cover state government. General session speakers include nationally known author and speaker Jim Burgett and Ralph Martire, the executive director for the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability.

Please plan to attend and offer your voice to the efforts of educational leaders from around the state to develop strategies for public education around the topics listed above.
