A Note From Stephanie Kowald, Head Of School
The Fruits of the Spirit is a new character education program at Grace. One of my mentors and former Head of School, Cathy Hardage developed the program.
The Fruits of the Spirit character education program is based on the bible verse Galatians 5:22-23. There are approximately nine months in the school year and there are nine fruits. A fruit is assigned to each month and is introduced to first through eighth grade students by the Christian Formation teacher, Dana Peterson. Throughout the month, the corresponding fruit will be discussed. Each teacher will select a student or students that they believe demonstrate the month's fruit. Additionally, students will nominate a peer from their class that they believe best represents the fruit of the month. The selected students will be recognized in a monthly chapel and will receive a certificate.
According to our Mission Statement, "Grace Episcopal Day School provides a program of academic excellence while preparing children to live responsible lives in a community grounded in the Christian faith." It is my hope that this character education program will provide another opportunity to facilitate the development of the whole child. Thank you to all of our families for the blessings of your children.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23
