Pentecost is one of the most important feast days of the Church. Ten days after Christ ascended (and 50 days after Easter), the Holy Spirit came and stirred up the power of faith within the 120 or so people sent to Jerusalem by Jesus. This same Spirit stirs up in us a passion to live lives full of love. To celebrate the promise kept by Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, we will observe this day with traditions familiar to Grace Church. A portion of the passage from Acts will be read in a variety of different languages. We will wear red to remember the tongues of flames. During the sermon time, we will have a bit of a reenactment of the story for engagement. Finally, we invite everyone to bring something "red" to share at Coffee Hour. Deb Papps will be our guest stewardship "epistler." Celtic Meditations, at 5:00 pm, will include prayers from Iona, Northumbria, and the Episcopal Church. Healing is offered from just after the intercessory prayers throughout the remainder of the service. This week, Joanne Moar will offer a reflection on a personal encounter with God, and the music will include tunes from the Celtic tradition, plainsong and improvisations from Ryan, Eric and Debbie. We truly want you to be with us no matter where you are on your search for meaning. |

Fundraising Planning Meeting
Come join us on Saturday, May 30th from 9:30 to 11:00 am as we plan a few events for the remainder of the year. Help us design fun events for Haunted Happenings, or ways to join in the Christmas in Salem Walk. Bring your ideas for ways we can raise some money from the neighborhood for our programs that help others in Salem. A light breakfast will be provided. So come and share your creativity with us on Saturday May 30th. Everyone is welcome to come!

What the program looks like so far?
- Supplies: We donated seat back covers so that each student can have a place to store their supplies in a convenient and easy to access place. We also brought in many supplies to begin the school year and continue to replenish as needed.
- Space and Social Engagement: The students have used this space for four different events as an out of school venue. Grace Church hosted a welcome back dinner and two dance parties for the students and their guests; one in February and another March.
- Support: Members of Grace Church joined the Bowditch School for a "Trunk or Treat" event in October and as audience members for their assemblies, as most parents are working during school hours. We will join them for their field day in June at the school.
- Field Trip: The class walked down to Grace Church in November where they were met by members who worked with them to make the centerpieces for the NBS community Thanksgiving dinner. We will host an end of year program during the school day with a Talent Show and lunch in our Parish Hall.
- MCAS: Each student received a gift bag from the parish filled with items to encourage them while taking the exam.
- In-School Support: Members of Grace Church spend time in the classroom with a reading program and ESL program.
- "Pen-pal" Program: Letters are frequently shared between the students and parishioners.
- Community Meetings: The Rector is present as an advocate at meetings in Salem involving the schools, particularly the NBS.
- The Music Academy at Grace (MAG): our new after school program.
(Next week: More on the after school program)

Report of May Vestry Meeting
|
After receiving reports from the Rector and the Partnership, the Vestry discussed some property issues pertaining to landscaping, especially the overgrowth around the building, plans for the Quinlan Memorial Garden and the condition of our gutters. The Finance Committee requested a change in banks so that all our accounts are in one place which was approved. There was also a recommendation that we remember to keep our pledge payments current during the summer months. Lastly, a fundraising events meeting was scheduled for Saturday May 30 from 9:30 to 11:00 am.

Memorial Day weekend is the start of summer travel. Over the next three to four months, many of us will be traveling and out of town. Here are a few suggestions for staying connected to your church.
- Find an Episcopal Church in the town you are visiting and go attend. Make sure you bring back a leaflet so we can see the wonderful things other parishes are doing!
- Keep us in your prayers.
- Keep you pledge payments current, or better yet, prepay them in June for the summer months.
- If you return on Sunday afternoon, don't forget you can come to church every Sunday at 5:00 pm. Celtic Meditations is a great way to prepare as you transition from vacation mode to work mode.
Don't forget, if you are in Salem on Sunday morning, we will have breakfast each week at 9:30 am, (beginning July 5), Holy Communion with the Garden Project for the Church School at 10:30 am, Celtic Meditations at 5:00 pm and a picnic at 6:00 pm (beginning June 28).
So enjoy this wonderful gift from God while you stay connected with the holy.
