Historic Preservation: National Arts Club Façade Restoration

Information from NAC House Committee Chair Dr. Eugene Weise:
Currently there's a great net draped over the front of the National Arts Club concealing a pipe scaffold. This is the original Governor Samuel Tilden mansion at 15 Gramercy Park. The two joined brownstones built in 1884 by architect Calvert Vaux are one of the great architectural treasures of New York City. The beautiful Victorian Gothic façade is a poignant reminder of the Gilded Age. As part of a restoration masterplan the front of the building is being inspected by a team of architects. They will prepare a detailed survey to ensure its ongoing preservation. The work should be completed in May 2016.
