Victory for our neighbors and our Quality of Life Committee!
On Thursday, Feb. 25, representatives from the GPBA, led by President Arlene Harrison and Quality of Life Committee Chairman Sean Brady attended the second CB6 Business & Street Affairs ("BASA") meeting to speak in support of our neighbors on 24th St in their struggle to maintain the quality of life on their residential block.
The New York Comedy Club (24th St, 2nd/3rd Ave) has been a source of noise and a magnet for crowds since it opened over 20 years ago. Many neighbors report the problem has gotten far worse since new owners took over the club a year and a half ago.
Recently, the new owners have tried to expand the club by opening a "second stage" in a restaurant space adjoining the club and obtaining an additional liquor license for the space.
While the BASA Committee considered the proposal,
GPBA members spoke out against it and supported a resolution whereby the restaurant space could only be used as a restaurant, closing at 11pm with no live performances.
Nicole Paikoff, one of the neighbors we supported, was until recently Chair of the BASA Committee. Paikoff and the BASA Committee were always extremely appreciative of the perspective and input provided by the GPBA and we are glad that we had the opportunity to support our neighbors' residential block's quality of life.
