This annual event commemorates the philanthropic legacy of Edwin Forrest, a prominent 19th century American Shakespearean actor who used his wealth to support his fellow actors in their old age and whose name lives on in the Edwin Forrest Wing of The Actors Fund Home in Englewood, NJ.   Arlene Harrison was introduced to The Actors Fund by her longtime friend and colleague Susan Latham, who is the Deputy Director of Advancement at The Actors Fund.

Approximately 130 supporters of The Actors Fund enjoyed lunch at The Players, followed by excerpts from Broadway and The Bard performed by Tony winner Len Cariou and Mark Janas. The event culminated in a celebration of William Shakespeare's birthday, in keeping with Edwin Forrest's wishes.

The Actors Fund is a national human services organization founded in 1882 that helps 15,000 performing arts and entertainment professionals each year in times of need, crisis or transition, providing health, housing, employment and social services.

Tree & Shrub Maintenance -Deep Root Invigoration

Bartlett Tree Experts were recently in Gramercy Park for our annual Park Tree Maintenance Program. Each year, they assess our trees for visual signs of diminished capacity for growth, discolored foliage and branch deterioration.

This spring, based on their analysis they have selected several trees for deep-root invigoration. This 4000-year-old system (it used to be known as "tilling the earth") now involves aerating the root system with special equipment and regenerating organic matter back into the soil. A supersonic air spade is used so as not to damage the feeder roots.
