Only 4 More Days Left!
We are approaching the last weekend of our Turtle-y awesome Cookie Sale program! Remind your customers that now is the time to stock up (Thin Mints in the freezer are THE BEST!) or they'll have to wait 365 days before they can enjoy cookies again. Make sure you also tell them what you're going to be doing with your cookie sale proceeds. Customers love supporting girls with goals!

Did you know that if your Service Unit sells 3, 6 or 9 percent more than last year, your troop would bank 3, 6 or 9 more cents per box of cookies sold? That's an awesome way to get closer to your troop's goal!

NU2U Troop-Camping is Open for Junior and Cadette Troops, March 3-4
Our inaugural NU2U program was held last month at Camp Welaka! Brownies and Juniors had a great time learning how do conduct a flag ceremony and a flag retirement. They also made solar ovens, cooked over a fire, hiked to the Catwalk, participated in archery and canoeing , and learned camp songs around a campfire.

NU2U is designed for troops that are new to camping. The on-site volunteer team will provide your troop with meals, outdoor-themed program, as well as songs, laughter and FUN!

If you missed it, don't worry! The next NU2U designed for Juniors and Cadettes is scheduled on March 3-4, at Camp Welaka.

NU2U is your chance to go troop camping with our volunteer pros! Register now for an expertly guided one-night troop camping event at Camp Welaka for Junior and Cadette Troops.

Leaders can see the basic how-to's while girls hike, swim and canoe. NU2U also offers archery, fire building, outdoor cooking, cool crafts and warm s'mores! This program is designed for girls and leaders who are ready to take the first "steps" into the amazing world of camp, yet have little or no camping experience.

Troop leaders will provide adult to girl ratio. The troop camp trained (TCT), First Aid certified adult, lifeguard, and canoe and archery instructors are provided.

Lunch, snacks and dinner (Saturday) and breakfast and lunch (Sunday) are all included. Accommodations are in cabin units. Packing list and confirmation packets will be sent via email a week prior to the program.

NU2U allows female chaperones only. Please refer to Volunteer Essentials Manual for information about the appropriate ratio. Space is limited for this program; troop leaders and troop volunteers will be limited so the program can serve as many girls as possible. Register today!

New Destination Just Announced!
GSUSA has unveiled a new Destination entitled "Astronomy Adventure at Pine Mountain Observatory" at the University of Oregon to be held July 10-14, 2018.

This year, Girl Scouts can observe the night sky with bona fide astronomers while camping in the beautiful Deschutes National Forest of Central Oregon, thanks to the "Reaching for the Stars" grant from NASA and in partnership with the SETI Institute.

As part of the experience, a group of ten high school Girl Scouts will learn how to operate mountaintop telescopes, collect and manipulate data to form images, and enjoy space science activities that will hone their STEM skills and possibly inspire eventual careers in astronomy.

Girl Scouts must be at least 15 years old at the start of the Destination and must still be a high school student for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Learn more by visiting this link:
http://forgirls.girlscouts.org/travel/astronomy-adventure/. Applications are due by February 10, 2018.

World Thinking Day & Global Action Awards
Each year on February 22, Girl Scouts participate in activities and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. It is a special day in the Girl Scout year when we remember we are part of a worldwide movement.

The 2018 World Thinking Day Theme is Impact!
This year, we'll celebrate the Impact that the movement brings in the lives of our members and their communities. Let's celebrate, learn about and participate in all of the amazing ways our global movement has impacted each of us in our communities.

Each year, Girl Scouts of all grade levels can earn the Global Action award. This award emphasizes the WAGGGS sisterhood (146 countries strong) by encouraging girls to work together to make a difference as they support an issue that affects girls and women around the world.

In 2015, the U.N. community came together to form the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-a set of 17 ambitious goals aimed at ending extreme poverty, fighting inequality and injustice, and curbing climate change by 2030. Starting this year, as they work to earn their Global Action award, girls will learn about the SDGs and related challenges locally and globally. They'll join their sisters worldwide to take action in support of this important global agenda.

Both the World Thinking Day and Global Action awards are Official Awards and therefore may be worn on the front of the Official Uniform sash or vest and placed where other earned badges are worn.
