Upcoming Events
The McMinnville Public Library, Linfield College's Nicholson Library and
Third Street Books are please to announce the innaugural
event for
MacThinks.

For ten years, we have brought various authors to town for MacReads. This year we are changing the format to
MacThinks.

Like MacReads, MacThinks will bring a diverse group of people to McMinnville. Unlike MacReads, they are not all authors. Our goal is to engage a wider swath of our community with a varied group of people who we hope with spark interesting conversation and debate.

Pegasus Books $27.95

Join us for the inaugural MacThinks event on
Wednesday, October 22nd at 7pm at the Austin Reading Room at Linfield College's Nicholson Library.

Roger Roffman, author of Marijuana Nation: One Man's Chronicle of America Getting High: From Vietnam to Legalization, will share his insights as a long-time researcher about marijuana, its benefits and dangers, and the recent legalization in Washington state. From lobbying in Washington to talking to doctors and patients in oncology wards, and watching his own brother struggle with addiction, Roffman has experienced the layered and complex relationship Americans have with marijuana first-hand. With one foot on each side of the fence, at times feeling at odds with both camps, Roffman is on a quest to challenge those who insist we think of marijuana as a weapon of mass destruction, as well as those who would have us see it as a harmless source of pleasure and relief.

Roger Roffman is a University of Washington Professor Emeritus of Social Work. For thirty years he has studied counseling approaches for marijuana-dependent adults and children.

This event is free and open to the public.

Grand Opening Celebration!
Please join us this Friday, October 10th from 4pm - 7pm for a celebration in our new space! We will have bubbles, giveaways and general good cheer. We are so excited to share this new location with everyone - we think you are going to like it (if you haven't already been in!).

And a BIG thank you to all the people who helped us with the Book Brigade! We moved all the books in about two hours - quite a feat. We could not have done it without you. I saw many familiar faces helping out and it really warmed our hearts to have everyone there. THANK YOU! We'd also like to add some extra thanks to the Phillips Family and Their Amazing Daughters for so much I can't even list it here, Dave Franey Electric - for all the lighting, advice and hand holding, Mitch Horning and his beautiful hand lettering, Zac Hixson and Left By West and Mitch Horning for our refurbished info desk, Miller Tech for hustling on our phone system, Nectar Graphics for the sign help and the amazing staff at Third Street Books!

We are starting to plan some exciting events. Our first one is the inaugural event for MacThinks! Read more about it at the left. Later in November, we look forward to hosting local author Stephanie Shaw for the release of her new children's book A Cookie for Santa - check back for more info.

And last year's Indies First was so much fun - we are doing it again! The Saturday after Thanksgiving, we will be home to local authors who will put on their bookselling hats for the day. More info to come including a list of participating authors!

And finally, on Saturday, October 11 from 9-2 we will be hosting a "garage sale" of sorts in our old space. We still have stuff in there we need to get rid of - so come on down and help us out! We will be posting pictures later this week on our facebook page
