Dickson Memorial to be Dedicated

You are cordially invited to help us dedicate the Eric V. Dickson Memorial at Memorial Park in Woodland Park, Teller County, Colorado on August 25 at 11:00 am.

Lance Corporal Eric V. Dickson, a member of B. Company, First Battalion, First Marines, was killed in action near Quang Tri, Republic of Viet Nam, when he received fragmentation wounds to the body from a hostile explosion device while on patrol May 31, 1968 and is the only member of the armed forces Killed in Action in the Vietnam War from Teller County. His memorial was vandalized in the years following the Vietnam War and finally its remnants taken down and nearly forgotten. Fifty years later his surviving friends, fellow veterans, local business leaders and residents from Teller County and surrounding counties privately raised $80,000 dollars to honor Eric's sacrifice and life.

We would be honored to have your attend the unveiling ceremony. Please RSVP to Colonel (R) Dan Williams at 912.247.1258.

US 24 Rockfall Mitigation, Cascade to Manitou Springs (completion approximately October, 2018)

8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily, Monday, August 20 through Thursday, August 23
  • Single lane with US 24 eastbound and westbound traffic head to head sharing the US 24 eastbound lane in Ute Pass between Cascade and Manitou Springs (mile post 294 - 301) during hours of operation
  • Reduced speed limits
  • Extended commute time for congestion in the work zone
  • Road restriction to 11 foot width restriction during working hours
  • Work consists of rock drilling, scaling and grouting
  • Bicyclists are discouraged from riding through the construction zone during hours of operations.
Work is to stabilize large boulders and rocks above from falling onto the highway. For the protection of the traveling public and workers, traffic is moved to the outside lanes to create a safe buffer under where mitigation is taking place. This work is taking place between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Crews are not working during morning and evening commute times, and are off the road on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information:
