fossil beds The Monument is open from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm through March 9 and then 9:00 am - 5:00 pm from March 10 until May 25.

Friday, March 16, Night Sky Program, 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm.
Join park staff and members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society to gaze at the dark skies above Florissant Fossil Beds in search of planets, galaxies, nebulas, and more. Meet at the visitor center.

Saturday, March 17, Winter Track Detectives, 11:00 am- 12:30 pm.  Join an interpretive park ranger for a guided hike (up to 2 miles) to discover the clues left behind by the Monument's wildlife.  As a track detective you might encounter tracks, scat, feathers, rubs, burrows, and much more left behind by birds, coyotes, elk, badgers or perhaps even see some of the wildlife in person.  Dress in layers and be ready to walk on uneven ground and possibly snow. Meet at the visitor center.

There are no additional fees for any park programs beyond the daily entrance fee of $7.00 per adult (15 and younger are free). Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument offers 15 miles of beautiful, yet lesser known, hiking trails to explore, a free Junior Ranger Program, three short self-guided trails, a park video and museum exhibits, and bookstore.  For additional information, please call 719.748.3253 or visit our website: HERE or on Facebook or Twitter at /FlorissantNPS.

Message from Coalition for Upper South Platte Executive Director Ekarius

Dear Friends and Supporters,

CUSP
As CUSP wrapped up our second decade of service in the Upper South Platte Watershed, it is an appropriate time to reflect on the work we have done throughout the watershed as well as in neighboring areas that impact our watershed.

2017 marked the fifteenth anniversary of the Hayman Fire and the fifth anniversary of the Waldo Canyon Fire. We know that these are not the last fires that will occur in our area, so we continue working to reduce the impacts of future fires.

One of the  2017 projects I'm most proud of was the revision to the Woodland Park Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). The new plan, dubbed the Greater Woodland Park CWPP, more than doubles the area we are planning for work in, covering the Hwy 24 corridor from Cascade to Lake George, and included a first of its kind analysis of post-fire flooding impacts before a fire occurs. The new CWPP will enable CUSP and our many partners to more strategically implement fuel mitigation projects in the years to come.
