DDA BOARD OPENING
The City Council of the City of Woodland Park is accepting applications from persons who are interested in serving as a member on the City's Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors. One term on this Board is vacant. Interested applicants must reside, be a business lessee, or own real property in the Downtown Development District in the City of Woodland Park. In addition, an officer or director of a corporation having its place of business in the District is also eligible to serve on this Board. Applicants must be available for meetings when called, and usually in the morning. The term of this office will expire on June 30, 2021. For more information on this volunteer opportunity click here.

Fossil Beds May Activities
Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is open year round. During May the Monument is open 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Starting Saturday, May 26, the Monument will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Friday, May 11, Night Sky Program, 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm.
Join park staff and members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society to gaze at the dark skies above Florissant Fossil Beds in search of planets, galaxies, nebulas, and more. Meet at the visitor center.

Interpretive Talk, 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, 30-minute interpretive presentation in the amphitheater
Ranger Guided Walk, 11:00 am, 1 mile guided hike on the Petrified Forest Trail

Yoga Hikes, starting Monday, May 28 at 9:00 am - 10:30 am and then occurring every Monday during the summer

Join a certified yoga instructor and a Park Ranger for a 1 hour and 30 minutes, 1 mile yoga hike. This will be a hike interspersed with standing yoga poses. This program is geared for beginner to intermediate yoga enthusiasts. Meet at the visitor center.
Demonstration Excavation Site and Fossil Discovery Lab

starting Wednesday May 30, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, and then continuing every Wednesday throughout the summer. Meet geologist, Dr. Bob Carnein at the demonstration excavation site and see the fossil beds in situ and learn about how excavations are conducted. This site is located off the Petrified Forest Loop approximately 1 mile round trip from the visitor center. From 1:30 pm- 3:30 pm, Join Dr. Carnein in the Fossil Discovery Lab (Yurt tent in picnic area) and discover fossils using microscopes.

American Legion Post 1980 and VFW Post 6051 of Woodland Park, CO work together to provide proper observance of Memorial Day. This ceremony begins the Saturday before Memorial Day with the placing of American flags on the graves of veterans at the cemeteries in Woodland Park, Divide and Westcreek. The cemetery at Woodland Park contains the graves of veterans of the Civil War to the present day War on Terrorism.
Then on the morning of Memorial Day, American flags are posted at Lions Park which is at the crossroads of Hwy 24 & 67. Then later that morning at approximately 11:00 am, a formal observance is performed at the Woodland Park cemetery. Here, the order creating Memorial Day is read followed by the laying of wreaths at the grave of the latest veteran to be buried at the cemetery. This is followed by a rifle salute and the playing of taps. The public is invited.

Last Winter Market of Season
Last Winter Market of the season coming up on May 12 at the Ute Pass Cultural Center, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.
This may be the last Winter Market in a different way, since the Board has decided to continue only with Holiday Markets in November and December.
Still time to get your favorite stuff from the Cheese People, Kneading To Bake, Sali's Sassy Salsa, Mama Giuseppa's, Boulder Natural and Gold Camp Bakery.
Of course, many others will be there too, including Taylor Produce with early veggies.
For the many people asking, Summer Market starts on June 8 and continues every Friday, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm , to September 28, in Memorial Park.

Volunteers Needed for AARF
The Adoptable Animal Rescue Force is seeking volunteers for a variety of jobs. Volunteers are needed to drive the organization's van to transport dogs, help at adoption fairs, man booths at community events, and walk and socialize dogs.

Marigreen Pines Estate Tours
Tickets for the much-anticipated tours of the historic Marigreen Pines Estate go on sale May 16 at the Ute Pass Historical Society Gift Shop, 231 E. Henrietta Avenue in Woodland Park. Shop hours are 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, Wednesday through Saturday.
Tours of the celebrated mansion, completed in 1923, are Saturday, July 14, and Sunday, July 15. The tours of the estate are hosted by the Ute Pass Historical Society every three years.
