But No Fooling Here - Our First Calf of the Year 

Not the best picture, but getting close to momma and baby is not easy, especially since she was just born that morning.

Her coloring is what we call "roan," and is a result of breeding the cow to our shorthorn bull. We are introducing shorthorn into our breeding as they tend to have exceptional characteristics for finishing on grass.

My Greenhouse 
Allan and Landon have been working non-stop on our greenhouse. They built a new door at the far end and added a couple of vents. I am so very excited to finally be able to use it to its full potential. Already I have tomatoes germinating in our home and will begin planting seeds and starters in the greenhouse towards the end of April.











Last fall I planted broccoli, beets, carrots, spinach, and brussel sprouts, and they are still going strong. Once the broccoli plants produced a small middle head I cut it, and now they are giving off lots and lots of small shoots. Our daughter, Lisa, said they serve it at the restaurant where she works and they call it "broccolini." It is very sweet and tender, and even tastier than normal broccoli.

Sold Out in Texas/Oklahoma 
Our Texas/Oklahoma lease conditions have changed and Allan decided to sell out. We have a nice herd of cows established in Colorado now, and going back and forth to Texas has gotten more and more difficult as we grow older. He had a hard time letting them go, as the cows were our foundation herd and have served us very well. We made the decision rather quickly, but both feel it is for the best.

I am reminded of something I read recently - Everything can change in the blink of an eye, but don't worry, God doesn't blink. We are confident that He has us in the palm of His hand and the future will be even better than the past.

In Closing . . .   
Being in a transitional state can make for some anxious moments, but we are trusting that we are in God's hands and all is well. If we threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

Again, I am reminded of another saying: "It's never too late to be happy, but it's all up to you and no one else. No one is in charge of your happiness but you." So we choose to find a way to be happy in spite of any and all disappointments.
