Dear Friends and Family  of  Camp Sancta Maria,

Although I've spent ten summers working at CSM, it is hard to believe my first summer as Camp's new Executive Director has already come and gone. It was a summer filled with many blessings along with a few transitions. We said goodbye to Fr. Bob Spezia who was our longtime Chaplain in addition to serving as the Executive Director the last few years. We missed Fr. Bob's daily presence, but we are so glad he is still an integral part of Camp as the President of the Board of Trustees.

We were also blessed to have Fr. Zach Mabee from the Diocese of Lansing take over as Chaplain. In addition to having him guide us spiritually, it was a blast having Fr. Zach join us on programs as he threw down a few dunks, led a team in our ultimate Frisbee tournament, and showed us his horsemanship skills.

Celebrating the 4th of July on the beachfront.

It is always good to take a moment and reflect on the blessings and memories of each summer. One particular memory stands out for me. On the 4th of July, we spent the evening down at the beach where we celebrated with a cookout, beach games, night prayer, and a guitar sing  along. As I sat with my wife, Carrie, and observed the campers having such a good time and coming together as a group, I turned to her and said, "This is why we do what we do here. This is why we make the sacrifices we make." It was a blessed moment and one that I will treasure. The joy on the campers' and counselors' faces as we celebrated the many gifts we have been given by God here in our country was a beautiful sight!

I want to thank you for your continued support of Camp. We are truly grateful for our CSM family and friends, and we appreciate having you as our partner in our mission to form young Christian men and women. Please help us spread the word about the wonderful ways in which our Lord is changing the lives of so many children and grandchildren at CSM. We ask you to keep us in your prayers and know that you are in our prayers, as well. God bless you.

Warm regards,

John David Kuhar
Executive Director

Camp Improvements We Completed in 2017
Thanks to Your Generosity!

We hope you enjoy the photos below showing just some of the improvements we were able to make at Camp this year thanks to your generous financial support. One inspector said CSM is one of the nicest camps he visits! He commented how impressed he is with the many improvements we have made since he's been visiting us over the past several years. Thank you for making this possible!

Thanks to a generous donor, our campers
enjoyed brand new compound bows!

Seminarians from Sacred Heart Major Seminary  work to replace another
bunk bed  for the camper cabins.

More seminarians work on the assembly line
to build  new shelves for the camper cabins.

The newly built Gaga Ball Pit
was a huge hit with our campers this summer!

There was plenty of scraping and painting
to be done on the outside....

...and on the inside.

Thanks to the generosity of one of our supporters, we were able to install
the newly repaired Blessed Virgin Mary statue in front of St. Luke's.
Along with replacing her hands and shoulder, work also included repairing the base and installing footings. It was a favorite spot for families (and seminarians) to gather for photos. Plans for 2018 include planting a beautiful flower garden to best honor our Mother.

Because of you, we are able to continue to offer our campers a breath of fresh air (literally!) in a technology-free zone as we provide our campers with wholesome recreation centered in the physical world around them. Thank you for the blessing you are to Camp Sancta Maria and all of its campers and families!

2018 Season Registration Ope ns November 18!

Great things happen at CSM when our campers take a break from the technology and noise of their daily lives and listen to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit.

Give your child or grandchild the opportunity to listen to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit and register them for Camp Sancta Maria's 2018 Summer Season!  Stay tuned for another email announcing the 2018 Season dates and the opening of registration in November.

Each week our counselors come together to discuss which campers have best exemplified Camp's TKO formula (Trying hard, being Kind, and being Obedient). At the end of each week, we name the Honor Campers selected by the counselors.

Every camper who is named an  Honor Camper for a minimum of two weeks is then eligible to receive the Honor Camper of the Year Award. At the end of the summer, the counselors select one Honor Camper of the Year for each age division, along with a runner up and second runner up.

The Honor Camper of the Year Award is the highest honor that we bestow upon our campers each season. We are excited to announce our 2017 Honor Campers of the Year for each division are as follows:

  Junior Division (ages 8-10)
Winner: Eugenio Camino-Cantu
Runner Up: Joseph (Eddie) Osberger
2nd Runner Up Aiden Walsh
Intermediate Division (ages 11-13)
Winner: Micah Bragg
Runner up Aidan Anderson
2nd Runner up Cristobal Gama-Martinez
Senior Division (ages 14-16)
Winner: Rory Fitzgerald
Runner Up Carson Arnegard
2nd Runner Up Danny Chandler

Congratulations to Camp Sancta Maria's
2017 Honor Campers and their families!
We are so proud of you all!

Camp Sancta Maria counselors celebrate  the Fourth of July
in color and style!

I do not know if I have ever seen a more loving group of counselors, staff and volunteers working together! They tirelessly gave of themselves out of love for the Lord and for all those who came through our gates this summer. They were so dedicated and took great care in looking out for our campers and providing for their needs  throughout the whole summer!

CSM campers love our Camp family, as well! When campers go home and tell their parents they need to eat salad because their table counselor ate salad every single day, we know we are doing something right!

There are also many volunteers who  help to make Camp what it is. Without these volunteers who give so generously of their time and talent, CSM would not have been able to accomplish all that you saw in the above pictures, as well as the many things that may go unmentioned. Thank
you for helping to  open up Camp, renovate, fix, improve, maintain, clean, cook, do laundry, mow  grass, build bunks, change oil, close Camp and the    list goes on.

Meet our new cook, Vic Ouellette,
surrounded by some of our counselors.

As a CSM counselor, staff member, volunteer or donor, you may never know first-hand the impact you have on a camper, but know that you are making a difference in the lives of many children through your countless sacrifices and example of a faith-filled life! To each and every one of you, THANK YOU!

God bless you all!
Campers enjoy visiting with Fr. Zach Mabee after Mass.

Great Things Happen at CSM Because of You!

Because of your prayerful and financial support of Camp Sancta Maria, we are able to continue in the mission passed down to us since our founding in 1933 of forming young Christian lives, the lives of our children and grandchildren. We are truly grateful you have chosen to partner with us in this most important mission.

Please help us spread the word about the wonderful ways in which our Lord is changing the lives of so many children and grandchildren at CSM.

Great things happen at CSM because of YOU! Thank you.  May our Lord continue to bless you and your loved ones.
