Company News

To all our readers, happy September!

Linda and Princess spent the end of a perfect August (one of the best summers ever in New York) in the beautiful home of their friends Marcia and Aaron hidden in the woods in the Hamptons, NY. A peaceful paradise.
We had two wonderful days of sailing where Princess became
 an expert sailor!
Thank you Marcia and Aaron for making our August so special and for the lovely time we spent together!
Spotlight On Our Authors
Toddi Gutner

We are happy to welcome Toddi Gutner and her latest book, Two Worlds; One Family's Journey With AspergersToddi is an award-winning business journalist and editorial strategist who has covered the financial markets, small business, management and leadership issues for The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, Forbes and Reuters. Toddi has written this memoir with her family, about growing up and raising a son with Asperger's syndrome. Lee, who is now 17, was diagnosed with Aspergers at 3. His 15-year-old brother, Cameron, and her husband all contributed to the book. She previously collaborated on a book with Lori SacklerThe M Word (McGraw Hill, 2013), about finances and the family.

Noel and Phyllis Fiarotta
We are delighted to include Noel and Phyllis Fiarotta for their book, The Last Dragon Feather, a charming commercial middle grade story. In school, Noah Leno, a young talented artist, hair streaked blue, crazy about Picasso, is Mr. Self-Assured. At home, he is a latchkey kid and embraces a special friendship with his neighbor, a middle-aged Chinese lady, from whom he learns exotic dragon fables and the meaning of life. A marvelously heartfelt story encompassing the important issues of absentee parents, gender, diversity, art, and death.
Noel and Phyllis Fiarotta are well seasoned authors, with books published by Workman, Sterling, Black Dog Leventhal, Disney Hyperion and Bantam Books. They have been featured in several magazines and their images appeared in many promotions, including Sesame Street.

Amir Ahmad Nasr's "My Isl@m" Translated into Hungarian
We are very happy to announce that Amir Ahmad Nasr's My Isl@m, which was published by St. Martin's Press in November 2013, has been recently translated in Hungarian and published by Atlantic Press Kiado'.
The book is a poignant, honest and uplifting memoir of how blogging and the Internet opened Amir's eyes and heart to a world beyond his religious fundamentalist upbringing. Amir is the blogger behind The Sudanese Thinker,  a three-time finalist for the Weblog Awards, which has two million followers worldwide. His writing appears regularly on The Guardian.

Praise From Our Authors

Thank you, Jerry, for your kind words!

"After submitting my manuscript to Book Marketing International and receiving the editorial analysis, I'm confident that this has proven to be the best investment I could have made toward the future success of my project. Your editor provided a critical overview and professional assessment of the concept followed by a detailed edit and analysis of the complete work. He left nothing to chance, evaluating every sentence, every paragraph and every chapter. He became personally involved in the novel and with the characters, and in the process I felt like he became my mentor and partner, making observations and suggestions that served to improve the script and tell the story. I sincerely appreciate your recommendation of this editor. He is a valuable asset to your agency and I have profound respect for his talent and his dedication to his craft." Jerry Bee, "Darius Provine and the Slingshot Saga"

How Critiques Can Help You
When receiving critiques from a professional editor or another author, the most important thing you can do is listen, keep an open mind, and not respond emotionally. This will help you absorb the information and gain a fresh perspective on your writing's strengths and weaknesses. A good critique will:
  • Show you the strengths and weaknesses of your storyline, timeline, pacing, characterization and dialogue, and whether there is too much telling and not enough showing.
  • Bring in another perspective. Your writing doesn't always convey exactly what you are intending--it's important to get a professional outsider's perspective, who has had experience either as an author or has worked in a commercial publishing company as an editor to see things that you can't.
  • Offer advice. Good criticism not only highlights problems, it offers suggestions. Whether or not you act on the advice, it can be helpful in providing options for future revisions.

Critiques are important in taking your story to the next level.  Receiving a professional editor's criticism can be an extremely effective way to elevate your writing, as long as you remain open to the process. Even best-selling authors can go through this process multiple times before their books are ready for commercial publishers!
