4th Annual Greek Festival Weekend Underway

Experience Greek culture at the Cretan Center's Greek Festival, taking place this weekend! It started Friday at 11 a.m. on West 168th Street. Lorain Avenue south to Albers Avenue is closed for festival use. Parking is available in the municipal lot and nearby streets. Live music, Greek dancers in traditional folk costumes, and plenty of food highlight the festival as it runs Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Monday, September 1, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

Purchase amazing Greek food inside the air-conditioned center or from the grill outside. All food is provided exclusively by City Club Catering, which operates inside the Cretan Center. Seating is available both indoors and outside.

On Saturday, the West Park Kiwanis Club will hold a dunk tank challenge, with an opportunity to dunk a local restaurant server or brave volunteer for $1 a ball. See details in the flyer here.

The popular Greek band Stigma plays every evening. There is a 50/50 raffle on Sunday night and another one on Monday. Make a visit to the Greek Festival part of your holiday fun this weekend!

One More Evening of Asphalt Cinema Fun: Friday, September 12

School has started, but summer continues as one more evening of activities takes place for Asphalt Cinema. Settle on your lawn chairs and blankets by 7:30 p.m. for the early start of our final free movie under the stars: Monsters University! Join the fun on Friday, September 12, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Impett Park, 3207 West 153rd Street, north of the Giant Eagle at Warren Village Shopping Center. See the flyer, here.

Enjoy activities sponsored by Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and games with prizes sponsored by local business owners. A children's DJ starts at 6:30 p.m. Beverages, popcorn, and hot dogs are available for purchase from Kamm's Corners Farmers Market.

Best of all, the movie and fun are FREE of charge, thanks to our sponsor, Fairview Hospital.

Cleveland Heroes Run & Little Heroes Dash, Sunday, September 14

No matter whether you're a fast runner or prefer to stroll, join the Cleveland Heroes Run to support our community and those who gave their lives in the name of serving others. The race raises funds for the West Park Cleveland Police and Firefighters Memorial Fund, established in 2002 to create a lasting Memorial to honor both Police Officers and Firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty while either serving the citizens of Cleveland's West Park area or while living in the community.

KCDC is a proud sponsor of the 13th Annual Cleveland Heroes Run, a five-mile and two-mile community run set for Sunday, September 14. Opening ceremonies begin at 8 a.m. The run starts at 8:30 a.m. It begins and ends at St. Joseph Academy, 3470 Rocky River Drive. The entry fee is $20, but $25 race weekend. Sign up online here. This year, the event also features a free Little Heroes Dash for children ages 7 and younger, sponsored by the West Park Family YMCA. Details on the flyer and waiver form here.  

10th Annual Cleveland Senior Walk Offers Free Fun

Wear comfortable shoes and join in a free one or two-mile fun walk taking place on Thursday, September 11, on Mall C downtown, sponsored by the City of Cleveland Department of Aging. Free T-shirts will be provided to the first 1,000 registered walkers. Click here for the form. Health screenings begin at 8:45 a.m. There will be a brief program at 9:30 a.m. The walk begins at 10 a.m. If it is raining, the walk will take place inside Public Hall.

Walkers are encouraged to car pool. Park in the Municipal Lot at East 9th Street and the Shoreway for $3. Exact change is required. Free shuttles will transport the walkers from the Municipal Lot to Mall C.

Remember to make Kamm's Corners Farmers Market part of your Sunday tradition! Farmers set up from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West 168th Street and Albers Avenue, bringing you the freshest produce. Come early this Sunday for the best parking spaces as the Greek Fest will also be taking place, starting at 11 a.m.

St. Joseph Academy is back in session next week, so here's a tip from Councilman Marty Keane. Avoid Rocky River Drive between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. during the construction as traffic will be extra slow to accommodate turns into and out of the academy.

On September 23, three teachers from Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, will talk briefly about the way their faiths see Abraham, a pivotal figure in the origin of these three monotheistic faiths. The West Park Kiwanis Club is presenting the West Park Dine & Dance, a social evening of dance, food, and fun on Saturday, September 20, starting at 6 p.m. at the Cretan Party Center, 3853 West 168th Street. In honor of national yoga month, the yoga teachers at River's Edge are offering a FREE yoga class on Saturday, September 27, from 10 to 11:15 a.m. All levels are welcome and no previous yoga experience is needed. Bring a yoga mat and water. Extra mats are available at class.    

 

The Rescue Inn has was hit with some huge medical bills recently. To help pay them, the Kyle Carestia Memorial Fund will be hosting a fundraiser at The Third Place Tavern, 3314 Warren Road in Warren Village on November 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. They will also be celebrating the birthday of Pam Alerine, the owner of Style Mutt Dog Boutique & Daycare, 3525 Warren Road.
