Annual Greek Festival Returns Labor Day Weekend

Brought to you by the George Varouh Cretan Club of Cleveland the 5th Annual Greek Festival is coming Labor Day Weekend. West 168th Street from Lorain Avenue south to Albers Avenue will be closed for festival use. The fun begins at 11 a.m. on Friday with lunch specials. The event runs daily until 11 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. on Labor Day.

food, including young lamb on the spit, will highlight the festival weekend. A DJ will keep the music going from 2 to 6 p.m. followed by live music by Stigma and dancing until closing. Parking is available in the municipal lot. Entry is free of charge.

The celebrity dunk tank returns, hosted by both the West Park Kiwanis Club and the Cretan Party Center. The tank will feature servers from area taverns and local celebrities. Try sending your favorites into the drink! Also, take a chance on the 50/50 raffle, enjoy Greek libations, and immerse yourself in Greek culture. It's like visiting Greece without leaving the corners!

Festivities Planned Today in the Parking Lot

Sports Radio 92.3 The Fan is celebrating its fourth year on the air from various Kamm's Corners venues with a parking lot party this Friday, August 28, starting at 2 p.m. Join the fun at Backstage Bar, P.J. McIntyre's, and West Park Station.

Live boadcasting begins at 2 p.m. from P.J. McIntyre's and then moves to Backstage Bar at 7 p.m. There will be a dunk tank to benefit Beyond Words Foundation for Autism, a "Fan of the Year" contest, and free cake. See the full day's schedule with all the details here
 
OLA Fall Festival Offers a Few Changes

Our Lady of Angels Church, 3644 Rocky River Drive, will hold its annual Fall Festival for two days this year: on Friday, September 11, from 6 to midnight, and on Saturday,

The festival takes place on church grounds.
September 12, from 2 to 11 p.m. Enjoy live music, games for all ages, carnival food, and beverages, but no rides.

New this year, a raffle takes place Saturday evening for a grand prize of $1,000 followed by 52 smaller prize drawings each week throughout the year, averaging $100. Some will be larger. For more information, call the church rectory at 216-252-2332. 


11th Annual Cleveland Senior Walk Takes Place on Mall C, Wednesday, September 23

 
The Annual Senior Walk takes place on September 23.
Wear a pair of comfortable walking shoes for a free one or two-mile walk taking place on Wednesday, September 23, on Mall C downtown, sponsored by the City of Cleveland Department of Aging. Free t-shirts will be provided to the first 1,000 registered walkers. Click here for a link to the flyer and here for the registration form. Health screenings begin at 8:45 a.m. A brief program begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by the walk at 10 a.m. If it is raining, the walk will take place inside Public Hall.

Walkers are encouraged to car pool. Park in the Municipal Lot at East 9th Street and the Shoreway for $3. Exact change is required. Free shuttles will transport people from the Municipal Lot to Mall C.

Facade Renovation Begins on Alber Building

Construction has begun on the façade renovation of the Alber

Building located at 17019-25 Lorain Avenue. Recently purchased by Kamm's Corners Development Corporation, the building has been largely vacant for years, is in need of significant improvements, and is one of the few buildings in the district that has not been upgraded.

With assistance from the City's Storefront Renovation Program, the renovations will retain the historic character of the building and update its curb appeal with all new storefront windows and doors, sleek modern sign panels, and decorative exterior light fixtures. Exterior renovation is expected to complete in less than 60 days. A new program is seeking 250 mentors to serve 850 eighth graders in 23 selected Cleveland Metropolitan School District buildings. Selected mentors receive 10 to 12 hours of training to gain the tools needed to be a successful mentor. Learn more here.

An inventory sale takes place on September 10, 11, and 12 at the West Park Branch of the Cleveland Public Library, 3805 West 157th Street, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Expect big bargains on books, CDs, and DVDs. Proceeds will be used to purchase new materials for the branch.
