Spring 2013 Newsletter
Greetings!

Terrestrial dry fly fishing is almost here!  There have been a few cicada sightings, and the grasshoppers are starting to show up on all sections of the Green River.  We still have prime dates in May and June available - get out here if you can.

2013 Season Outlook

Brown Trout Meets Hopper Snow-pack for the Wind River Mountains, the head waters of the Green River, is currently around 100% of normal.  Flaming Gorge Reservoir is around 80% capacity.  So, it is looking like we will have a low water season of 800cfs for most of the year.  This will set us up nicely for dry fly fishing this summer.

As many of you know, we are overdue for an incredible cicada year.  Our guides have already heard and seen a few of the buoyant protein snacks on the river.  We just need a rainy week followed by a few days of 80 degree weather, and the cicadas and grasshoppers should be readily available for the trout's enjoyment.

Blue Wing Olives

Blue Wing Olives The BWO hatch has been phenomenal this year!  The bugs are still coming off in blanket hatches on cloudy days.  On sunny days the fish are keyed into the subsurface stages of the hatch, but high fish numbers keep it plenty exciting.  BWO Cripple patterns in gray #16-18 have been the best dry flies.  The BWO hatch should stick around for the next 2 weeks with sporadic hatches lasting into June.
