The New York Baroque Dance Company

November 24, 2012

Our Hopes for the Future

Early Dance Institute: The New York Baroque Dance Company has mentored new talent in the field of Historical Dance. However, there are so many more dancers interested in history that have not had the opportunity to dance in the company. They have nowhere to go for serious graduate studies in historical performance practices. In response to this reality, Catherine Turocy would like to develop the Early Dance Institute  at a university which would offer advanced degrees in Dance History and would promote interdisciplinary research linking dance scholarship with the other disciplines. Ideas for the program and courses have been developed and now it is time to find a home for the EDI. If you are connected to the academic world and/or have an interest in supporting such a venture, please be in touch with Ms. Turocy through the company website.

International Touring: Plans for a European/Asian Tour with producer Ozlem Bas and a tour of Scandinavia (in its final planning stages) will keep us busy in 2013 and 2014.

USA Activities: We continue our partnership with GEMS for touring the  Pleasures of the Dance  in North America. We are also very excited about upcoming projects with Opera Lafayette and Concert Royal in 2014.

The Gap: With larger projects being planned for the future the company needs additional administrative support to handle international contracts and touring logistics. Earned income from performances, lectures and teaching covers a large part of the company expenses for the year. For the remaining gap, we depend on contributions from our supporters and enthusiasts like you.

With federal and state funding being cut, the NYBDC is even more vulnerable to a fiscal shortfall than in earlier decades. Orchestras and Festivals which have hired the company in the past have tightened their budgets, not including dance in their 2012-2013 season. New York State is experiencing a funding crisis in the arts and funds from the National Endowment for the Arts are at the lowest level they have been for our company. We need your support to get us through this year as we plan for a busier schedule in the 2013-14 Season which will put us back on track with earned income levels.

Please help us to bridge the gap in our budget and to hire a full time administrator with a talent in touring management by making a tax- deductible contribution.
