Newsletter #13 - July - September, 2016

Hej, hej från Sverige!
Hello from Sweden!

Our summer in Stockholm has been AMAZING!  We have been in awe of the goodness of God as He has opened many doors for the Gospel.  When you live at 59˚20' N latitude - life is often reflective of the amount of daylight you
are experiencing.  We have gone from 18½ hours of sunshine at midsommar to the current 12 hours, 3 minutes.  This will drop in half by the end of December.
While we often use this analogy as an example of the spiritual darkness in Scandinavia, we are so encouraged by the fervent hearts of our brothers and sisters in Sweden and from the many nations that now call this country home.  The light of Christ in them shines brightly.  They inspire us to want to follow God more closely than ever before.  We are so grateful that God has called us here.
And we are just as grateful for each of you - our faithful prayer and financial partners.  We could not be doing what God has called us to do without you.  You are part of a team that believes in us and in what God wants to do in Sweden.  Can you hear us shouting across the Atlantic:  "Tack så mycket!"  "Thank you so much!"  May the Lord bless you abundantly for your sacrifices of time and resources.  We are on this journey together.  And what an adventure it is!

Seeing God's Goodness

"I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living."
Psalm 27:13

Here is our journey during July, August, and September.

In July, we traveled to Riga, Latvia to connect with our neighbors in the Baltic.  Here we enjoy the company of Igors Rautmanis and his wife Nora Rautmane.  Igors works all over the continent with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students and Nora is Registrar for the Baltic Pastoral Institute.

We then drove to Tartu, Estonia, where we met Peep Saar - church planter, pastor, and movement maker.  Peep's church - Risttee Keskus (Cross Roads) is already starting a second site in Tallin.

In Tartu, we were also able to connect with our friends, Toivo and Einike Pilli.
Toivo is the senior pastor at Salemi Kirik and also teaches theology at the Free University in Amsterdam.  Einike is the Rector at Korgem Usuteaduslik Seminar - the seminary in Tartu.

In Tallinn, we had a wonderful meeting with Erki Tamm and Helari Puu.  Erki is the President of the Evangelical Christian and Baptist Churches of Estonia.  Helari is an Estonian pastor and Converge missionary.  In July of 1984, Billy Graham preached in the church where we were meeting (see photo behind me).

Back home, we spent the day in Vaxholm where Lynn enjoyed her smoked shrimp Swedish style.  She does love a bowl of fresh seafood!

At the end of July we made a quick 12 day trip to Atlanta and were able to see 3 of our 4 adult children and 4 of our 6 grandchildren.  Here we are with our daughters, Kim and Anna-Kate.  We also prepared a small shipment of the few possessions we have left and sent them on their way to Sweden - our new home.  It should arrive in October.

In August, the New Life Church Camp was preceded by two days of leadership training.  Here Paul Johnson - senior pastor of Woodridge Church in Medina, MN and leader of the Aspen Grove Network - teaches over 100 New Life leaders.  Translating is Viktor Paulsson - co-pastor of Fridhemskyrkan - one of the sites in the New Life Network.

Baptism at church camp is always a special time in our network.  The faith stories of these people would touch your hearts deeply.

Movement Makers.  Pastor John van Dinther - founder and senior pastor of Sweden's New Life Network - prays together with Anatoly Kaluzhny - senior pastor of New Life Church, Kiev (Kyiv), Ukraine.  We were blessed by the presence of 9 leaders from Ukraine at our church camp.

Assisting at Church Camp was a California team from Whittier Area Community Church and EvFree Fullerton.  These amazing people served the families of New Life so graciously.  Here we are having fun at our home following a Swedish taco night.  And yes, that's Converge missionary Grant Morgan holding a selfie stick.  His wife Lindsay is next to Lynn.

In early September, we welcomed a second team from EvFree Fullerton - the Stockholmies - five professional videographers who came to help our Network tell our stories.  They filmed 11 videos currently being edited plus taught New Lifers in camera operations and editing software.  We've seen some of the rough cuts.  They are awesome!  Can't wait to share them with all of you!

Here videographers Jared Belt and Daniel Custer "shoot" Viktor Paulsson and Jenny Wählstrom - co-pastors at Fridhemskyrkan - on the steps of their church site in the Kungsholmen district of Stockholm.

Also in September, we held the first module of Salt Shaker - a course on Church Planting and Multiplication.  Pastor John van Dinther, Lynn, and Jim each taught 2 sessions.  Over 50 people took part - live in Stockholm and live streamed in Göteborg.

And the day after Salt Shaker, we jumped on a plane to Budapest for meetings with ReachGlobal Europe's Strategic Partners Team.  Love working with Rich Millhouse, James Lauderdale, Joshua Dunkel, and Todd Hiltebran.

But now we are back home in Stockholm - serving the city we love.  We couldn't do what we do without all of you - our faithful partners.  Thanks to each of you.

Great is the Lord - and most worthy of praise!

Please continue to pray for us!

Pray for wisdom as we help lead the church multiplication movement
of the New Life Network
and for our dear new friends
as they seek to win their country to Christ.

Please pray for us as we coach church planters
 and come alongside movement leaders.

Please pray for health and protection as we serve.
