Founder Tom Monaghan, Dean Kevin Cieply, and the late Ambassador Michael Novak
Hello Friends,

We are fully supportive of our alumni who took the bar exam in Tampa this month. Our thoughts and prayers continue to stay with them. I would like to extend a special thank you to Professor Chris Buscaglia for all of his hard work guiding the students through the rigorous bar prep course, and to Beth Humann '16, for all of her tireless efforts. It was a great team effort.

This month kicked off the first of many Admissions open houses we will host on campus this Spring. We also had the pleasure of welcoming Pulitzer Prize winner and Fox News panelist, Dr. Charles Krauthammer, to Naples. It was a great event and my sincere thanks to all of you who were able to attend.

I hope you will join me on March 25 when we celebrate our founder, Tom Monaghan's, 80 th birthday with his friends and family at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort.

You are in my thoughts as we prepare for the Lenten season

God Bless,

Kevin Cieply
President and Dean

Ave Law Remembers Ambassador Michael Novak

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Ambassador Michael Novak, one of the most influential Catholic theologians and thought leaders of our time. A respected scholar, novelist, professor, diplomat and journalist, Ambassador Novak was an esteemed lecturer at Ave Maria School of Law, and a treasured friend. He will be greatly missed.

An Evening with Dr. Charles Krauthammer

Ave Law presented a  Signature Event featuring Dr. Charles Krauthammer on Saturday, February 4 to an audience of almost 400 at the Naples Grande Beach Resort. It was a great honor for our school to host Dr. Krauthammer as our Signature Event speaker for a second time. He is one of the most influential commentators in America with incredible depth and knowledge to share with all of us. It was insightful hearing his remarks, especially during the current change in the political climate.

I would like to thank our generous sponsors of the event: Naples Daily News, Mercedes-Benz, WAVV FM Radio, Harmon's AV, and Life in Naples. Thank you, also, to Rick Borman, our moderator, our student speakers, and our wonderful group of volunteers. Proceeds from the event benefitted the Ave Maria School of Law Scholarship Fund.

Dr. Krauthammer has been a recipient of numerous awards, including the 2013 William F. Buckley Award for Media Excellence, the 1984 National Magazine Award for Essays and Criticisms, and the first annual Bradley Prize. Additionally, he has written a syndicated column since 1985 for The Washington Post for which he won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary. It's published weekly in more than 400 newspapers worldwide.

Dr. Krauthammer serves as a contributor for Fox News Channel, appearing nightly on its evening news program, Special Report with Bret Baier. His latest book, Things That Matter: Three Decades of Passions, Pastimes and Politics, was a #1 New York Times Bestseller.

Q: You live on campus in one of the villas with your wife and children. We give you credit for balancing it all while going to law school full time. How do you manage everything? How do you find the family/life culture on campus while you are pursuing your career?
A: It is challenging balancing the roles of father and husband with that of law student, while at the same time developing and nurturing a professional network. One thing I quickly realized is that law school requires complete dedication and is very challenging. Essentially, I am a father and husband by day and a law student by night. I can honestly say that without the unwavering support of several of my professors, I would never have been able to achieve so much. I have learned to look at my professors not simply as teachers, but rather as role models, counselors, and (eventually), as friends. Probably the most challenging aspect of raising and supporting a family in the law school campus environment is that being a husband and father does not have a set schedule. Life can-and will-happen at any moment. Add the stress inherent in law school to the unpredictable nature of fatherhood, and what results can be both wonderful and chaotic. Is it difficult? Without a doubt. But is it worth it? Even more so. All this that I do, I do for my family. And they support me, too.
