A Salute to Caregiving
by Staff Social Worker Jennifer Gillette, LMSW

There are roughly 65 million people in this country serving as caregivers either to an aging adult, a family member with a debilitating diagnosis, or an adult with disabilities. Of this roughly 20% of the population, many are also caretakers of minors in their homes, are trying to earn a living for their families, and are carrying a multitude of other responsibilities that frankly can be exhausting. To strengthen the person who supports the one battling the illness, is to strengthen the team. This may involve learning new strategies or receiving support from other resources.

Meredith A. Cowden 2017 Graft Versus Host Disease
National Symposium
Friday, Oct. 13, 2017
On Friday, Oct. 13 at the Grand Event Center in Columbus, OH, hundreds will gather for an incredible day of learning hosted by the Meredith A. Cowden Foundation.
This conference is intended to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of GVHD, review cutting edge approaches to prevention and treatment, and highlight and promote research to further our understanding of its cause. There will be two tracks: a scientifically rigorous one for physicians and practitioners and a survivor track that will focus on the challenges faced by BMT recipients and their families. The survivor track is intended to provide both education and the opportunity for individuals to interact and hear from national leaders in the field. The afternoon "Meet the Expert" panel provides a unique opportunity for both physicians and survivors and their families to
interact during the program.
The cost is free to patients and their families.

This year the Meredith A. Cowden Foundations is excited to team up with the The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute , who will serve as hosts of the 2017 symposium!

We at the nbmtLINK thank the Meredith A. Cowden Foundation for their support of our cGVHD telephone series and upcoming webinar, made possible through their annual Link Partnership.
