BYO chair, snacks, blankets, friends, and more to the weekly  Beach Bonfire  starting at sunset, around 8 pm. This week sees two beach bonfires: on Wednesday August 30 at the Fifth Avenue Beach and switching back to Fridays on Friday, September 1 at the Sunset Avenue Beach. 

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Monmouth and Ocean County present an Open House Block Party on Friday, August 25 from 4 pm to 7 pm. The party includes open swim time in the pool, backpack giveaways, skateboard giveaways, DJ and hip-hop performances, free food, games and prizes, and more! More info here

Hi-Tide and the Surfrider Foundation present an Aloha Friday Beach Sweep on Friday, August 25 to kick off the Asbury Park Surf Music Festival. Help clean up the North Beach at 6 pm, then enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done with post-sweep live music from Bongo Surf, tiki drinks, and food from the Anchor's Bend. More info here


The Asbury Park Surf Music Festival returns on Saturday August 26, with the best rock for hitting the waves, featuring Los Straighjackets, the Fathoms, Aqualads, Black Flamingos, Slowey and the Boats, the Surfrajettes, Great White Caps, the Televisionaries, the Reefriders, and more. Plus presentations the "Pigments of Imagination" tales of tattoos and Sailor Jerry spiced rum cocktails and "the Coolest Guitars in the World" historical discussion and demos with Chris DiPinto and members of Los Straightjackets. Twist the night away with the World Famous Asbury Park Twist Contest during the Black Flamingos set, and get a chance at a surfboard giveaway. Doors open at 11:30 am and cover is $20, more info here

The City of Asbury Park presents the Building a Brighter Future Back to School Block Party on Saturday, August 26 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Donald Hammary Community Courts on Prospect Ave. Celebrate the end of another wonderful summer and the start of a fabulous fall with free food, bookbags, school supplies, rides, giveaways, and more! 

The Neptune Animal Hospital and Yellow Roof present a Vaccine Fundraiser for Tails of Hope Rescue on Saturday August 26, from 3 pm to 6 pm. The fundraiser includes special deals for rabies, distemper, and microchips. Plus free giveaways, goodie bags, specials, 50/50, gift baskets, and the Asbury Dog Food Truck! More info here

the Asbury Park Promenade of Mermaids

The mermaids are coming, the mermaids are coming! The Asbury Park Promenade of Mermaids returns on Saturday, August 26, with a parade of merfolk, squid, jellyfish, whales, starfish, and every other fantastical aquatic creature. The promenade's pre-party and registration begins at noon, with the promade itself swimming off down the boardwalk at 2 pm. It's $10 to enter your fishy finery into the costume contest, but free to promenade it up. The promenade also includes face painting, belly dance performance by SharqiDance, Gypsy Funk Squad leading the promenade, and an after party at the Asbury Park Yacht Club. More info here

The Hotel Tides presents a Pool Party and Barbecue for Associated Humane Societies on Sunday August 27, from noon to 4 pm. The event includes carnival games, food, and fun. A donation of $25 is suggested, more info here


The Asbury Park Bike Share System is now live! 30 bikes, 6 stations around the city, and a whole new way to get around Asbury Park! Pay per year or per hour, fire up the Zagster app, and get wheeling! The Asbury Park Bike Share Kickoff Celebration is on Tuesday, August 29 at 4:30 pm in Springwood Park. Asbury Park's premiere comedy open mic night returns on Tuesday August 29, with So You Want to be a Comedian? hosted by Jess Alaimo. Whether you're a pro or an aspiring funny person, all are welcome! Down some liquid courage at the Anchor's Bend and hit the stage from 8 pm to 11 pm. More info here

Walk through Asbury Park's legendary and haunted history with tours from the pros at Paranormal Books and Curiosities. Learn about the  Ghosts and Legends of Asbury's Downtown on Thursday August 24 and Saturday August 26. Explore the  Ghosts of the Boardwalk  on Friday August 25 and Sunday August 27. Tours start at 7 pm and are $12, more info  here.  

There's so much spiritual information out there, and so many vibrational, dimensional, and spiritual changes around there. Spirit Cove hosts a Spiritual Information Exchange on Saturday August 26 at 5 pm for a round-table discussion and exchange of info. Attendance is $5, more info here. 

Art629 hosts Open Studio Painting Sessions on Fridays from noon to 3 pm and Mondays from 5 pm to 8 pm, open to all skill levels and with instruction provided as needed. Bring your own works in progress, start a new project, and get inspired! All supplies are included, and sessions are $20 an hour. More info here

Words! bookstore hosts a  Children's Story Time  on Thursdays, from 11:30 am to 12 pm. Children of all ages are welcome for stories, games, songs, and fun, content mostly geared towards kids under 5. More info  here

The Asbury Park Public Library hosts Children's Story Time at 1 pm on Monday through Friday, with special Children's Crafts on Tuesdays at 2 pm. More info here

the Wooden Walls Towel Project at GIFT

GIFT presents the Wooden Walls Towel Project, an exhibition of fourteen beach towels inspired by the Wooden Walls murals up and down the Asbury Park Boardwalk, and featuring artwork by the mural artists themselves. The celebration of the towel project is on Thursday August 31 from 7 pm to 9 pm at GIFT gallery and gift shop. More info here

The Asbury Park Sunset Farmer's Market runs every Saturday through October (weather permitting) at Fireman's Park, at Sunset Avenue and Main Street. The market includes farm fresh goods, pickles, flowers, baked goods, and more. Hours are from 8 am to 1 pm, more info here

Asbury Fresh is back! The collection of farmers, artists, craftsfolk, and more returns to Kennedy Park on Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm. More info here

The Sunset Lake Park Conservancy presents an Evening of Savories, Sips, and Sweets at 614 Sixth Avenue, from 6 pm to 9 pm. The fundraiser goes towards the Conservancy's efforts to promote the restoration of Sunset Lake Park to its natural beauty and environmental health. A donation of $25 is requested. 

As part of the Asbury Park Surf Music Festival, Hi-Tide presents a Tiki Brunch with Slowey and the Boats on Sunday, August 27 at 10 am. The fete includes a brunch buffet, cocktails, and live music. More info here

Who needs to choose between enjoying an outdoor beverage and enjoying time with your four-legged friend? Yappy Hour at the Wonder Bar is where dog-park-meets-bar, with fun and socializing for you and your pup. All dogs are welcome on Thursdays and Fridays from 4 pm to 7 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 7 pm. Small dogs get the place to themselves on Mondays from 4 pm to 7 pm. Siren Arts : "Summer of Radical Love" kicking off a summer-long residency and exhibition with featured artists developing and creating works in a range of visual mediums, exploring cultural, racial, sexual, and gender equality. The Baronet Theater at the Asbury Hotel kicks off their summer series of outdoor screenings in earnest, with movies every night of the week (weather permitting)! The lineup features  Jets versus Sharks in West Side Story on Thursday August 24, Will Ferrell and John C Reilly comedy Step Brothers on Friday August 25, inescapable animated spinoff Minions n Saturday August 26, one of the ultimate Meg Ryan rom coms When Harry Met Sally on Monday August 28, a pack of middle-aged guys try to recapture their college days in Old School on Tuesday August 29, Wes Anderson's dysfunctional family the Royal Tenenbaums on Wednesday August 30, and four friends in love and shopping in the Sex and the City movie on Thursday August 31 Screenings starts at 8 pm, tickets are $7.  More info  here .  

We got chills, and they're multiplying. The final Shore Flicks beach screening is high school musical fave Grease on Thursday, August 24, closing out this time of summer lovin' and havin' a blast (tell me more tell me more) The screening is at the Second Avenue Beach, starting half an hour after sunset (about 8:30 pm). Point Break Comes Alive at the Asbury Hotel

Hi-Tide presents Point Break Comes Alive at the Asbury Hotel on Sunday, August 27 at 8 pm. The classic 1991 surf-and-crime classic stars Keanu Reeves as an undercover FBI agent investigating a string of robberies committed by a bunch of surfers, and Patrick Swayze as their charismatic leader. The screening is accompanied by a live soundtrack provided by Great White Caps. Tickets are $10, more info here

Since 1988, HABcore has provided permanent housing for people in Monmouth and Ocean Counties, focusing on people who are homeless, in danger of becoming homeless, disabled, or unable to care for themselves. HABcore promotes self-sufficiency in a family-like atmosphere, providing residents with tools to reach their highest level of independent living. Volunteers are always needed, both individual and group volunteers, for a one-time event or ongoing programs.
