The New Year's Day City Council organization meeting included swearing in of the incumbent City Council members, and appointments for city professionals and committee members. Light of Day Winterfest

Light of Day Winterfest is back! The epic star-studded music festival takes over Asbury Park once more, raising funds and awareness for treatment of Parkinson's Disease. Since it was started in 2000, the foundation has raised over three million dollars for Parkinson's research, and in assistance for those suffering from the disease as well as their caregivers. Uncorked Wine Inspired Creations hosts paint and sips and open studios for any level of artistic talent and ambition, but mostly for those who want to make a little art and have a lot of fun! Come by on January 11 for a Pop Art Night, capturing some pop culture icons in all their bold glory. See their full schedule and list of themed paint and sips and special events here

Pop Art Paint and Sip at Uncorked

Spirit Cove LLC hosts Runes for Beginners on January 5, an introductory look at the ancient symbols, what they stand for, and how to harness their power. The workshop starts at 7 pm and is $40, more info here

Clear your mind and shed that stress with Meditation Monday at Spirit Cove LLC, on January 9 at 7 pm. Class is $20, more info here

The Father Empowerment Group meets at the Community Affairs and Resource Center on January 10 at 6:30 pm, providing group-led discussions and support for fathers of children of all ages. More info here
 
Parlor Gallery: "Wooden Walls Art" see more from the incredible artists behind the Wooden Walls Public Art Project on the Asbury Park Boardwalk (and see them from the warmth of inside the gallery) with this group exhibit. Includes art by Rubin 415, Mike Shine, Porkchop, RC Hagans, Danny Clinch, Bradley Hoffer, Dylan Egon, Michela Martello, Lauren Napolitano, James Vance, and Pau Quintanajornet. The exhibit runs through February 12. More info here

Joe Harvard at art629

art629: "Beauty through Radiation," black light art by Joe Harvard, with additional work by Mark Davis. A longtime Asbury-based artist and musician, this is Harvard's first gallery showing. The exhibit runs through January 16. More info here

Hotel Tides: "Abandoned," a solo photography exhibition of once-loved objects and once-inhabited buildings by Ellen Martin. The exhibit runs through January 15. More info here

The Asbury Hotel: "Transparent," an exhibit of photography by the legendary Danny Clinch. More info here

Heaven Gallery: "Coastal Inspirations," a group exhibition featuring work by over 25 artists, curated by Beverly and Michael Miller. The exhibit runs through January 7. More info here.

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA (after the death of his brother, a lonely man must return to his remote childhood home to care for his teenaged nephew and confront his past)
FENCES (August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize winning play, starring Denzel Washington as a black father in the 1950s struggling to raise his family and come to terms with the events of his life)
BRAND NEW TESTAMENT (God exists, and he's a jerk. His daughter takes the world into her own hands by texting the world how long they have to live, trying to fix her dad's mess)

Book of Love at the ShowRoom

On January 11 the ShowRoom Cinema presents a New York Film Critics Series sneak preview of the Book of Love, starring Jason Sudeikis, Jessica Biel, and Maisie Williams. Sudeikis stars as a grieving man who befriends a troubled teen girl and helps her to built a raft, which could rebuild both of their lives. The screening is at 7:30pm, and is followed by a live-on-tape post-film interview with Jessica Biel and film composer Justin Timberlake. More info here

The Asbury HotelUnited for Life, a hip-hop showcase and fundraiser for LGTBQ youth in Asbury Park and Project REAL, presented by Chris Rockwell. The lineup includes members of the Black Suburbia Music Show, Posse Galore, Kidz from the Burbs, Off Topz, and more. (7pm, $12/$18)

Paramount Theater: LIGHT OF DAY WINTERFEST: Remember Jones in Mad Dogs and Englishman, a tribute to the entire 1970 Joe Cocker concert experience, performed with a twenty-member band. (7pm, $39)
Silverball Pinball Museum: LIGHT OF DAY WINTERFEST: the Pinball Museum gets global with performances by Joe D'Urso and Stone Caravan, the Fireplances, Frank Get and Anthony Basso from Italy, Hans Ludviggson from Sweden, Johnny Duk from Switzerland, and Peter Elkas from exotic Canada. (9pm)

Georgie's"the Gay 'Cheers' of Asbury Park," with pool, beer pong, Go-Go boys, karaoke extravaganzas on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Lady Marisa's Glitter and Glam show every Thursday, twice weekly free food buffet, Ladies Nights the first Friday of every month, Sunday Funday football drink specials and buffet, and s pecial events every night of the week.

Paradise :  The club's two dance floors and lounge include new wave/Brit pop/dark wave Night School on Wednesday, Flawless Fridays hosted by Miss Paradise Jolina Jasmine, Country Line Dancing Saturdays, Thursday night karaoke, and more events every night of the week.

The Asbury Park Punk Rock Flea Market returns to Convention Hall on January 7, with a lineup of records, toys, comics, vintage clothes, home goods, artisan snacks, crafts, art, and so much more! Plus DJs spinning appropriately punk tunes, and live music in the upstairs Overlook. The flea market starts with 10 am early bird admission for $10, and $5 admission after 11 am. More info here
