The City of Asbury Park presents their annual Kwanzaa Celebration on Saturday, December 9 in the Asbury Park Senior Center. This year's theme is "unstoppabe!" and the event includes a DJ, cultural entertainment, karamu, prizes, and more! The event is free, and starts at 2 pm. More info here

Come celebrate the Second Annual Springwood Park Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, December 9 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm. Santa is coming to town, along with entertainment and refreshments! More info here


Jog now, enjoy milk and cookies later! The Asbury Park Santa Run returns on Saturday, December 9, taking the streets of Asbury Park by storm in a run/walk 5k, all in support of local charity Lunch Break, with a bonus massive toy drive. The run kicks off at 10 am, and registration is $29.95. More info here

The Santas are coming, the Santas are coming! SantaCon returns on Saturday, December 9, with registration starting at the Asbury Ale House from 1 pm to 5 pm. The festive bar crawl is $12.95 to register, more info here.  

It's time to deck the halls! The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Holiday Decorating Contest for Residents! Windows will be judged based on their overall theme or story, creativity, and overall design, and participation is free! Register by December 10 by calling 732-775-7676 or emailing [email protected]. Judging begins on December 14, and winners for best home, best apartment/condo, and best window/terrace will be announced on December 20. 

On Sunday, December 10 the Asbury Hotel presents Dog Pictures with Santa from 11 am to 2 pm. Dress your puppy up and snap the ultimate holiday card shot, all while hanging out with the cool folks (and pups) from Rescue Ridge. More info here

Comedians of all levels are welcome to strut and fret their five minutes on the stage at Asbury Park's premiere Comedy Open Mic: So You Want to Be a Comedian? Veterans and newbies alike can try out new material, try out the limelight, and appreciate what the other local comedic talents are getting up to. Doors open at 8 pm on Thursday December 7. The Asbury Park Social Club presents the "Sort Of" Newlywed Game, featuring live music by violinist Andrew Capers, while four couples will try to predict their partners' answers to a series of revealing questions! The game is free and open to all on Sunday, December 10, starting at 6 pm. Donations will be collected for Garden State Equality. More info here

The Saint hosts the HAGS Comedy Show on Wednesday, December 13 at 7:30 pm, hosted by Joe McAndrew and JC Hendricks. Cover is $5, more info here

Mosaic Craft and Sip at Convention Hall

Join in a Holiday Craft and Sip at Convention Hall on Thursday, December 14, where the team from The Pink Elephant Pottery will guide you through a holiday-inspired mosaic tile. The event is from 7 pm to 9 pm, and cost is $28. More info here

Paranormal Books and Curiosities presents a night with famed New Jersey Historian Dr Richard Veit on Graves and Graveystones, covering the history of and stories behind the gravesites and grave markers of New Jersey. The chat is Friday, December 15 at 7 pm, and is free but advance registration is requested. More info here

Neil deGrasse Tyson at Convention Hall

Fame astophysicist, best-selling author, and reknowned Tweeter Neil deGrasse Tyson comes to Convention Hall on Friday, December 15 at 8 pm. Host of the Fox series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey and the PBS series NOVA ScienceNow, Neil DeGrasse Tyson presents the Search for Life in the Universe, an entertaining, family-friendly evening designed to help unravel the mysteries of modern science. Art629 hosts Open Studio Painting Sessions on Fridays from noon to 3 pm and Mondays from 5 pm to 8 pm, open to all skill levels and with instruction provided as needed. Bring your own works in progress, start a new project, and get inspired! All supplies are included, and sessions are $20 an hour. More info here

Uncorked hosts  Paint and Sips and open studio sessions almost every night of the week, where you can flex those creative muscles and enjoy some good beverages with friends and family! More info  here

Words! bookstore hosts a  Children's Story Time  on Thursdays, from 11:30 am to 12 pm. Children of all ages are welcome for stories, games, songs, and fun, content mostly geared towards kids under 5. More info  here

The Asbury Park Public Library hosts Children's Story Time at 1 pm on Monday through Friday, with special Children's Crafts on Tuesdays at 2 pm. More info here

Ryan steps behind the bar at the Hotel TIdes on Thursday, December 7 for Tips for Toys, donating 100$ of his bartending tips to the Asbury Park Toy Drive. Stop in and enjoy a drink from 5 pm to 11 pm, more info here

The Asbury Oyster Bar presented a Holiday Dinner Party and Wine Pairing on Saturday, December 9 from 6:30pm to 8:45 pm. Enjoy a four-course meal with accompanying sommelier-picked wine pairings. The dinner is $85, more info here

Betsy Old at the Hotel Tides

Hotel Tides: artwork by Betsy Old, showcasing oceanscape paintings and prints. The opening reception is Friday, December 8 from 7 pm to 9 pm. The exhibit runs through January 17, more info here

Linda Zacks at Exhibit No.9

Exhibit No.9 : "stop go fast slow," a solo exhibition of abstract and mixed-media work by Linda Zacks, a collision at the intersection of daydream and experience. The opening reception is Saturday, December 9, from 7 pm to 10 pm. More info  here

Heaven Gallery : "Tiny Treasures," a group exhibit of 12 artists showcasing sculpture, painting, collage, pastels, and photography. All of the pieces are under $100, and under 10 inches - perfectly sized to fit under the Christmas tree. More info  here

art629: "Plays Nicely With Others," a group exhibit featuring artwork curated by Amelchenko + Bonifas Art Advisory. The collection of figurative paintings, collages, photographs, works on paper, and more reveal the diverse handling of the human form across artist and medium. More info here

Free Movie Friday continues at the Paramount Theater on Friday, December 8 with a screening of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the 1989 epic starring Harrison Ford (duh) and Sean Connery. Doors open at 7 pm and the movie starts at 7:30 pm, the screening is free. More info here

91%: a Film About Guns in America at the ShowRoom

The ShowRoom presents 91%: A Film About Guns in America, to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Sandy Hook School Massacre. A 2013 poll revealed that 91% of Americans support comprehensive background checks. The documentaryfinds a shared language between citizens on both sides of the issue. The screening is followed by a panel discussion with representatives from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Gays Against Guns NJ, and a resident of Sandy Hook. Tickets are $10 and the screening is at 7 pm on Tuesday, December 12. More info here
