Sun., Nov. 5 
All Saints Sunday 
Bring pictures of loved ones we have lost in the past year to surround us as a great cloud of witnesses during service. You are also welcome to bring photos of loved ones lost in previous years.

Sun., Nov. 5 - Prayer Walk 
After worship service, we will journey around our church and community on a prayer walk together as a church.  Please plan to stay after service for 15 minutes or so and dress accordingly.
Community Service Sunday
Nov. 12, 11:15am

In lieu of Operation Christmas Child (Shoe Box Packing), GUMC/GUMP will be packaging food for those in need. Our assembly day will be on Sunday, November 12th, 11:15am - 12:30pm. 

We will be packing ten (10) Thanksgiving Baskets for Ghent Area Ministry and making sandwiches for Saint Columba Ecumenical Ministries. Also, if you'd prefer to assemble a complete basket prior to our packaging event, you may.

Christmas Tree 
Donor Needed

Ghent UMC is looking for someone to donate a 12 foot, artificial Christmas tree with lights, or the funds for a tree. It can be donated either for this Advent (needed on Nov. 26) or next Advent. Please  contact Steve Loomis  for tree design guidance to make sure it will fit well in our sanctuary space.

Save the date! After service on November 26, stay and help us decorate the church f or Advent. Chili will be served.
Street  Requiem 
Nov. 11, 4:30pm

Presented by Freemason Street Baptist Church, the Norfolk Street Choir, the Virginia Children's Chorus, and other singers and orchestral players from across Hampton Roads, "Street Requiem" is a free, outdoor concert that will take place in the parking lot of Freemason Street Baptist Church Saturday, November 11, at 4:30 PM.

Fall Bible Study Classes
Changes and Addition
  • Fall Women's Bible study will not meet Friday, Nov. 10. The next and final meeting is on Friday, Nov 17.
  • Debbie Bonnewell will also have a special Advent Bible study session for anyone who wants to attend. It will be on Friday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. More information to follow.

Also, remember to hold in prayer the continued health of rescue teams, all who are helping with recovery, and those churches in California, Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana that serve as shelters and outreach.

Ghent Inspire Book Club 
All are welcome

November's book club will be studying  I Am the Door: Exploring the Christ Presence Within by Paul Ferrini. The meeting will be November 20 at 7:30pm.

December's book will be  If You're Missing Baby Jesus: A True Story that Embraces the Spirit of Christmas  by Jean Gietzen. Meeting will be December 11 at 7:30pm.

All are welcome to join our Ghent UMC choir. Rehearsals are in the sanctuary - Sundays at 9:30a.m.  and Wednesdays 7-8p.m.  All are welcome to come.

Mark Your Calendars
Leadership  Team 

Our next Leadership Team meeting will be Sunday, Nov. 12, at 12:30p.m.(following service projects). The brief meeting is to approve or disapprove of the proposed budget for 2018.

Also, p lease mark your calendars and plan to attend our Annual Charge Conference which is scheduled for Sun., Nov. 19, 3-5 p.m. at  Larchmont UMC.  We are clustered with Larchmont and Epworth this year.

General Fund Pledging

As I'm sure you know, this new chapter in the life of Ghent Church is refreshing. But, it needs your financial support. Please pray for God's guidance about your annual giving to Ghent Church. Your pledge card has been mailed to your home or you may pick up a card in our new welcome center. Place your pledge card in the offering plate.

Sanctuary Campaign Continues
We need to raise a total of $60,000 necessary for renovations and repairs of our sanctuary. And w e only have $6,060 to go!

Volunteers Needed
3 Positions
  • GUMC needs volunteers who are willing to act as greeters in our parking lot. You would greet people before Sunday worship services begin. 
  • Are you willing to volunteer to help arrange furniture in the organ loft?
  • We need volunteers who are willing to be on the GUMC kitchen crew list. Perhaps you can help clean up the kitchen on a weekly basis, a monthly basis, or as needed.

Volunteers Needed
Once a Month

Please volunteer once a month to help educate our youth. During worship, we offer children's church for children ages 3 through 5th grade. During the scripture and sermon, they go to the library for a brief Bible lesson, activity or craft. To sign up for a Sunday, click here.
